WASHINGTON -- Larry Flynt is claiming credit for outing Sen. David Vitter's connection to the so-called D.C. Madam.
The Hustler magazine publisher said his staff called Vitter's office Monday, saying they knew his telephone number appeared on a list from Deborah Jeane Palfrey's escort service.
"Vitter ran to the Associated Press in an attempt to get ahead of the story," Flynt's office said.
In a statement released late Monday night, Vitter said he "received forgiveness from God" and his wife several years ago.
Vitter, whose telephone number was disclosed by Palfrey, said he is sorry for a "serious sin" and that he has already made peace with his wife.
"This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible," Vitter said in a printed statement. "Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there - with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way."
Vitter lives in the New Orleans suburb of Metairie with his wife and four children.
Palfrey, meanwhile, has been accused in federal court of racketeering by running a prostitution ring. Palfrey contends, however, that her agency, Pamela Martin and Associates, was a legitimate business.
Four days after a federal judge lifted the restraining order, Palfrey posted on her Web site thousands of pages of phone records dating from August 1994 to August 2006.
The list is only phone numbers -- no names.
She said she posted the records because she believed pirated copies got out, and she wanted to insure the integrity of the information.
Palfrey also said she wants to find witnesses for her trial.
Federal prosecutors claim Palfrey ran a prostitution ring that pulled in more than $2 million over 13 years.
But she said Pamela Martin and Associates was a legal adult fantasy service.
Palfrey and her attorney have said the list contains up to 15,000 people and could shake up Washington by revealing high-profile individuals.
A Harvard graduate and Rhodes scholar, the 46-year-old Vitter was elected to his current office in 2004, becoming the first Republican from Louisiana elected to the Senate since Reconstruction. He represented Louisiana's 1st Congressional District in the House from 1999 to 2004.
In the House, Vitter succeeded GOP Rep. Robert Livingston, who was in line to replace Newt Gingrich as speaker until Livingston admitted to extramarital affairs and quit Congress. Livingston had been a critic of President Clinton, calling on him to resign over his affair with Monica Lewinsky.
"Larry Flynt says....." STOP!
“and she wanted to insure the integrity of the information.”
OY!
Would that be the same Larry Flynt who molested his own daughter ? The “Conscience of the Democrat party” ?

“Would that be the same Larry Flynt who molested his own daughter “???
Yes the same one who also admitted his first sexualy encounter was with a chicken.
Because he lied and flat-out denied the allegations.

At that point, it was just moonbat talk. You do realize there’s a different standard for a Republican politican, don’t you?
Why is it a big deal if he consorts prostitutes? Exactly how does that affect his ability to do his job?
If given the choice between a candidate who has a pristine personal life, but who disagrees with me on the issues, or the candidate who is well known around town as well, someone who is less than pristine, but who has views in line with mine, well, I’m supporting the one that agrees with me, not the one who lives a “good clean life”
We all act as if this had never happened before. You know, my father was the first person in his family line (from what I know) to have never even strayed once. There was a time when people got married and stayed married, for better or worse, and commandment against adultery not withstanding, many women in higher stratas just accepted that at one point or another, the husband would have an affair. Eisenhower did it. Somehow, F.D.R did it. You can go through the list of Presidents who had affairs, and yet none of them were ever called out on it. So why all the sudden do we feel the need to make this public news.
The only reason this has become an issue today is because people actually do have a willingness to get divorced whereas they usually didn’t back in the olden days. Jimmy Carter was a man who seemingly, led a good Christian life, was even a Baptist missionary. He was also an abject failure as President. On the other hand, you have a man like Reagan, who we know had divorced and remarried, and who, probably had affairs in the non-married times, and he was one of the best presidents the country ever had.
If someone cheats that usually means their is something wrong with the marriage, because usually, in happy, well-functioning marriages, people don’t cheat. People cheat when something has gone amiss. Marital problems have nothing to do with competency to do the job.
Does anyone else have access to this list. I would be very interested to see who else is on this list.
It leaves him open for blackmail. Really stupid on his part.
There was a thread earlier with a link. It only gives phone numbers and the city the call came from.
I want to know who wrote this BS article. Livingston wanted Clinton’s resignation FOR PERJURY. This rewriting history stuff has to stop.
Larry Flint?!? Is that old slobbering bastard still alive?
So does Flynt now pay himself the million bucks?
Larry Flint?!? Is that old slobbering bastard still alive?
Well, parts of him.
