Disturbing Concern (Romney's people pushing discredited Thompson story)

Washington Prowler

Gary Marx, a senior adviser to former Gov. Mitt Romney, apparently has started a Fred Thompson clipping service, along the way adding a bit of editorial perspective.

Marx, along with state Romney folks, spent most of Monday peddling the partially discredited Los Angeles Times articles that claimed Thompson lobbied for a pro-abortion group back in 1991.

Over the past 36 hours, the story has literally changed twice on the L.A. Times website, with facts removed or recollections changed.

That hasn't stopped Marx, who serves as a senior aide to Romney for outreach to social conservative groups, from emailing the articles, introducing them as a seemingly concerned conservative:

"Friends,

"Below are a collection of clips from press coverage of Fred's lobbying for a Pro-Abortion group. This is an important story to monitor as we all watch to discern the truth of this disturbing development. Please let me know what you think and what you may be hearing from others in this regard."

Disturbing indeed. At the same time on Monday, prominent social conservatives in Michigan and elsewhere were receiving hand-delivered files of clips regarding Thompson, similar to the ones Marx was emailing across the country."

A Romney insider says that their campaign had nothing to do with the peddling of the story, saying that another Republican campaign with friends inside the pro-abortion group spent time last week pushing the story.

"But this is big news, and if Fred wants to be frontrunner he ought to be used to getting beaten up like one," says a Romney supporter in California, who received the email from Marx. "Governor Romney's been a frontrunner for months and he seems to be dealing with it pretty well."

No surprise Willard’s crew is up to this.

A man who will stoop so low as to herd a bunch of 60 and 70 year olds to hijack a “Young Republicans” straw poll would certainly stoop low enough to do this.

Mitt Romney/Harry Reid—two Mormons errr peas in a pod.

How low will they go.

Why push a discredited information about Fred but there is plenty of verified information? An example is this form which Fred signed putting himself on record in favor of restoring Jean "Burning Necklace" Aristide to power.

There is another “Attack Fred” story brewing out there.

I got an email from someone who wanted to know if I had heard anything about Fred wanting to “slash Social Security Benefits.”

I hadn’t heard anything like that so I did some intenet searches of it. I came up with 2 very obscure things:

1. From: http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2007/06/07/216987.aspx

“Fred Thompson has already said publicly in a speech he recently gave in Orange County that he wants to slash CURRENT Social Security benefits to the elderly & disabled.”

All this is a comment from an ananomous source. It’s about 1/2 down the above web page.

2. From:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ae7EfXqNO4Q&mode=related&search=

There is an excerpt from a speech Fred gave in Orange County. At 1:10 into this Fred talks about Social Security. Everyone knows that unless something is done SS will not last. Anytime a Conservative mentions this problem Liberals accuse Conservatives of trying to destroy SS.

Romney can’t touch Thompson but the sooner he starts, the sooner we can quit hearing from ole Mitt.

"Look at Orin Hatch...."

I looked at Orin Hatch and when I heard that he would like to change the Constitution in order for a foreigner like Swartzneger to become President of the United States, I figured he is off his rocker.

"Whatever happened to the 11th Commandment?"

With all due respect to the Great One he didn't spare any ammo against Ford.

Given his both barrel treatment of Ford (well deserved by my observation but I'm sure not fully appreciated by Ford) I've often marveled at that "commandment" and wondered if there wasn't more to it.

It’s Mitt Romney we are talking about here. He’ll do ANYTHING to win. Including change all his positions over and over.

Romney’s a oily scumbag who will stoop as low as he neeeds to to get his pathetic numbers up(i.e hijacking organizations straw polls to create fake good news). How’d that one work Weird Willard? We all now know you’re a cheat who would abuse a group of Young Republicans for your own selfish purposes. No principals to be found anywhere close to Willard Romney.

Fake straw polls, dogs driven cross country on the roof of the car, secret underwear, life-long hunter though absent a hunting license, et al. It gets stranger and stranger, the story of Willard Mitt Romney. His father was “brainwashed” what happeed to poor Mitt?

Seems to me, contrary to what Hugh Hewitt who has his head in Willard’s crotch 24/7, says, with all of this “strangeness” and “weirdness” going on, there’ll be no weird Morman in the White House.
