neither one of your guys is electable. fred thompson isn’t a knight riding in on a white horse; he is, rather, the most conservative candidate who is ELECTABLE this election season. painting fred supporters as starry eyed neophytes is just a bunch of crap.

I'll watch tonight. Certainly not someone I idolize, as I don't idolize any man. But I'll be interested in what he has to say. Thank you.

You are welcome. Does the radio show repeat on TV?

Are you a 3 year-old? You’ve got a tagline and you can’t/won’t explain a word of it. What’s your problem?

Oh yeah, let’s not forget ...

“Times of decision are moments of great clarity. Before I was Governor, the life issue was just that, an issue. But when responsibility for life or ending life was placed in my hands, I made the right decision. I chose life. Just like some others in the pro-life movement, a moment of decision became a defining moment. And so, every time I faced a decision as Governor that related to life, I came down on the side of life.

I fought to ban cloning. I fought to ban embryo farming. I fought to define life as beginning at conception rather than at the time of implantation. I fought for abstinence education in our schools. And I vetoed a so-called emergency contraception bill that gave young girls abortive drugs without prescription or parental consent. That is my record as Governor of Massachusetts.

Recently, I was attacked by one of my opponents because when I ran for Governor I promised to maintain the status quo with regards to laws relating to abortion in Massachusetts. Of course, I kept that promise. But in Massachusetts, that meant vetoing pro-choice legislation - as I consistently did as Governor. That’s why last month I was honored with an award from Massachusetts Citizens for Life in recognition of the actions I took as Governor to protect life. The next president, especially if faced with a hostile Congress, will be confronted with many legislative tests, such as challenging the Hyde amendment and advancing cloning. You can be sure that I will be bringing my gubernatorial experience - and my veto pen - with me to Washington. “ - Mitt Romney, June 2007

There could be better on both sides. Simple question. Who do you support?

now as for the author of the article, he’s fair game.

You want to shoot at Viguerie's conservative credentials? Be my guest, you might also try pounding your head against the wall, with about the same results.

Richard Vigurie has a good point: GOP candidates should earn the support of conservatives not the other way around. We fell in love with President Bush but he turned out to be a Big Government Republican. We mustn't make the same mistake with Fred Thompson.

Are you refusing to answer who you support because it’s that Ron Paul guy?

Give the Bushbots, the Romneybots, the Thompsonbots, the Mcainbot and the Giulianibots some credit. Atleast they are not ashamed to admit who they are standing behind when they down another candidate.

Who do you support?

I read maybe a third of this, not realizing it was so long... There were some interesting points, but nothing earthshattering. Conservative desire for Thompson only goes to shine the light on the lies of those that like to bash what they call “100 percenters.” There are soft spots in his record, sure, which many of us are willing to overlook. I’m sure this drives Rudy supporters crazy, who would like to accuse us of hypocracy even though they’re the ones who draped the “100%” label on us.

Thompson can articulate important concepts, something the current administration has failed at repeatedly. And he comes down on the right side, or close to it, of every single issue Giuliani sucks on.

The one thing that does make me wonder, is if there’s any truth behind his supposed disinterest in the job he held... It would go a ways towards explaining the long, drawn out wait for a campaign announcement. I’m not sure I’d want a president who’s heart isn’t really in it. It’s a tough job, requiring a lot of dedication.

Time will tell, but if this is all there is in the way of negatives for Fred’s campaign I don’t think he has much to worry about.

Rumors circulated that Thompson was lazy, uninterested in the daily grind that comes with being a Senator—

Well then, a post of his leadership examples would be in order, may be hard to find though, because he was exactly what the quote implies.

So tell us, shy do you agree that Fred's vote on the Judiciary Committee was correct?

Because you are blatantly misrepresenting Fred's votes. For example, as I have said over and over, 1664, the only part Fred voted on was a 'table' motion to move the bill to vote, this was not voting for the bill itself. (at that, the bill never made it to the Senate for vote.)

I've also shown you that Fred voted Nay on 1156 but you are taking another procedural vote and misrepresenting that as a 'yea' vote on the bill. This is beyond misunderstanding the votes, this is blatant misrepresenting and distorting the record.

Jim,
Sorry. Nothing personal. Thanks for not pulling the plug on the thread. Shows that you’re a big man.

It pains me that an otherwise personally charismatic and attractive a candidate as Fred has what can only be called chinks in his armor. Darn it, it’s hard NOT to like the guy. I wasn’t aware of the full record until a friend emailed me the Viguerie piece. Fred’s close connection with Howard Baker is very troubling.

Having said that, someone somewhere along the campaign trial is GOING TO ASK THESE QUESTIONS and Fred will have no choice but to deal with them. That trail gets rockier every day and the rocks get really big. Despite what some posters have written, I DO NOT expect perfection in a candidate — just honest answers to honest queries.

I’d hate to see us all invest capital and energy in his campaign just to have it fold close to the finish line because he can’t give us answers that supporters can accept.

We don't have a Reagan. But painting Thompson as one doesn't make it true. If the man IS one of us, he will seek our support, not the other way around. None of the candidates has Reagan's appeal and those who are small government conservatives are rejected by GOP voters because they're considered "unelectable." If we drop our principles just because we're afraid of Hillary, we'll most likely get her or a Republican President who is Hillary Lite. And we'll wind up hating ourselves for it.

Suggest you reread post 415. Try to get all the way down to the third paragraph and you’ll have your answer.
