Sen. Vitter Apologizes for Number Showing Up on Phone Records of Alleged Prostitution Ring

WASHINGTON — Louisiana Sen. David Vitter apologized Monday for his telephone number showing up on the old phone records of Pamela Martin and Associates, the alleged prostitution ring run in the nation's capital by Deborah Jeane Palfrey.

"This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible," Vitter said in a statement.

"Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there --with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way," he wrote.

The acknowledgment from Vitter, a Republican who recently won praise from conservatives for his opposition to the immigration reform bill, comes days after U.S. District Court Judge Gladys Kessler lifted a restraining order, allowing Palfrey, 51, to distribute pages of phone records that she and her attorney said contains up to 15,000 names.

On Monday, she released the numbers on her Web site.

What he did in his personal life is less offensive to me than an elected official who runs on a less govt platform then goes to Washington and steals my tax dollars and spends like a drunken sailor. Or one who says he will never support amnesty then goes to Washington and votes for it.

My suspicion is that Vitter's office will hear fewer negative comments about this than it did when he "got in bed" with Rudy Giuliani.

They just don’t learn, my senator, who I really trusted, I would throw him out of office, just for being so damn dumb.

We need to expect more out of our elected Representatives than we got out of this guy. No excuse for anyone in a party that prides itself on defending family values to have a slimeball like this.

“Put this incident against the mayor of Los Angeles and his shenanigans. Who’s going to get the bad press? Oh, that’s a tough one. NOT!”

To be fair having an affair isn’t illegal but paying for sex is.

And did God say he would be more forgiving of number 10 than he would number 1, or all they all washed away? Did he tell us we should forgive people for number 2 or number 3 or we should just choose which ones we should forgive?

Louisiana? Yes.

Dead girl? No.

Live boy? No.

Not gonna be an issue.

“I’m quite frankly disgusted with most of the posts I’m seeing here. I’ve been around this place since 1997, and I never thought I’d see people excusing adultery.”

Some on here see politics as a team sport. If its a Dem jump all over him. If a Rep does the same thing make excuses. I get fed up with it.

More than that: The guys a US Senator. I dunno what he he looks like, but presumably he's not horribly disfigured. His special equipment must be in working order. He earns almost 200 grand a year.

Why does he need to go to a hooker in the first place?

Boggles the mind.

Of ALL of the pols I could have imagined who would possibly be on this list, David Vitter would be the very, very, very last. In fact when I saw the article posted here, I originally thought it was some sort of spoof. What was he thinking?

Um...

People do wrong?

Not exactly a new phenomenon.

Maybe I should be more shocked, but every time I go to church I and the rest of the congregation publicly acknowledge our sinfulness (not individually).

You meant, “With what was he thinking?”

The man is a moral scumbag who should resign. Why are we all having trouble saying that? Because he's a Republican? Because the DemoRats wouldn't boot Clinton?

If every member of Congress who committed adultery resigned, that would be about 2/3 of the House and Senate. Which does sound appealing.

Vitter, we found out about. But realistically, hundreds of other Congressmen and -women have done the same or worse; they just didn't get caught.

Yes, just what we need - politicians who are more adept at covering their tracks.

“It’s just sex” between consenting adults. It’s an old story.

But he’s a Republican and he stepped forward so the media will villify him.

It’s not like he was raping and harassing co-workers and then lying about it and buying off the testimony of others to save himself from prosecution. Heck, he wasn’t even deploying troops on the phone while receiving oral gratification.

Got to like too how he has stepped forward and been convicted in the media but the group he dealt with are still considered “ALLEGED” prostitutes.

Our biased media sucks DNC phallus.

Young children. How young and when was the incidence? Perhaps it happened before the little ones were born.

He addressed the issue with his family YEARS ago.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

That's an outrageous, chickens--t response to this situation.

I agree with GreatOne (though wouldn't go so far as calling it 'outrageous.')

That phrase is one of the most misconstrued sayings of Jesus. It's used by Leftists (who care nothing for any other quotes from the Bible) who would try to excuse away all kinds of Dimocrat misbehavior by calling on us to be 'non-judgmental.'

Jesus wanted us to be judgmental-- maybe not to 'cast stones' at sinners, but certainly to rebuke them.

Also, a minor point:

It should be "Let him who is without sin..." (not "Let he...").

If people are going to use the phrase, they should at least try to get the grammar right...and remember to finish the quote: "Go and sin no more."

Bill Clinton wasn’t being tried over adultery. He was being tried by Paula Jones for sexual harassment.

And whether he was engaging in workplace sexual affairs with co-workers and paying for them to lie under oath WAS relevant to that case.

Forgiveness?

Perhaps he’d been more effective by saying, “the b!tch set me up.”

Notice that even when a Republican is single, they call him a “womanizer”?

It isn’t about adultery.

There is a difference between immorality and illegal. While sex with a prostitute is immoral, should it be illegal? I think it should be legalised provided if it is put to a vote among the residents of the city/town involved.
