As several have pointed out, the gap is small and the leakage is minimal. That said, there is still some leakage and it can burn. I know a fellow deer hunter who uses his forearm to rest the revolver on when sighting. He replaces his parka every year from the powder burns.

Well, it was 24 years ago and I was a lot younger and a very wide eyed 2LT. No scales in the woods. I remember one of our hunting companions, a First Sergeant from the Ranger Battalion said that. All I know is that there was waaaaay too much meat for me to store in my deep freeze so we had a pretty big BBQ for my rifle platoon back at the company area. This was after we had a butcher process the carcass.

On 9/11 a US born møøslimb coworker objected to my new "God Bless America" sign, on religious grounds.

You should have replaced it with a "Nuke Mecca" sign.

According to my Speer manual 5th Edition, a .45ACP fired from a Freedom Arms Model 63 Casull, a 230 FMJ with 5.3 grains of Unique gives 900 fps. A Colt Gold Cup, firing the same bullet with 5.7 grains of Unique gives 750 fps.

Supposedly the bullet is long gone before battery is unlocked, but it does look like the action takes Power for cycling and how it is taken from the ballistic energy, I don't know, but that could explain the difference.

From a Wyoming Univ. website, the range of adult male elk is 550-1300 pounds live weight. Using their formulas, 1100 lbs dressed would be 1454 lbs live - out of the range.

They calculate that commercial butchers get 43% of dressed weight as lean boneless meat.

Again, using their formulas, if you had 1100 lbs cookable (boneless) meat: Yield of 1100 lbs boneless meat requires dressed weight of 2,560 lbs. 2,560 x 1.3 = 3,328 + 24 = calculated live weight 3,352 pounds.

Not to throw asparagas at a First Sgt, but that's a lotta bull.

Well, I don't worry about it. I don't. 'Sides...he is LONG retired. I should have asked the Butcher for the weight. I just ponied up the $$$ while the nco's discussed cooking techniques and whether or not to let the mess hall participate. It was a great party. What I remember of it. The nco's came up with the kegs.

Isn't that a 6 inch barrel vs a 5 inch barrel? I think that barrel length is by far the most important part of this discussion.

"Isn't that a 6 inch barrel vs a 5 inch barrel?"

Oops, the revolver was 7.5 in vs. 5 for the auto. Apples and oranges. Comparing a .45 auto rim fired from S&W 625 to an ACP fired from a Gold Cup, both fired from a 5" barrel. AR, 230 grain fmj, bullseye 5.4 grains at 800 fps, ACP 230 gr FMJ bullseye 4.6 grains at 800 fps. Using W231 with same bullet, AR 6.3 grains at 800 fps, ACP 5.4 grains at 800 fps.
