I believe that was the consensus inside the beltway after Clinton’s election in ‘92.

Thats a good analogy. However, there was an instance with Smith on the senate floor that I will never forget. I think the debate was regarding confirmation of someone to something, and the discussion was that individual’s honesty. Smith got up and said in response to something Kennedy said: “Well at least he didn’t leave the scene of a crime”. I fell on the floor laughing out loud over it.

I watched cspan this morning, and actually called in to talk about Reagan’s 11th commandment and why was it that only Rudy is going after the democrats, when the other candidates are going after each other.

With each passing day I’m more and more disgusted with the republicans, with Dominici, Alexander, Voinivich, and others backtracking on winning the war on terror. These individuals are only backtracking to get some positive air time on national networks so they have a better chance of winning in 08. It is beyond disgraceful that they align themselves with Drubin, the man who slandered our troops on the senate floor, in an effort to get some positive media attention. They deserve nothing from me, no cash, no support, only disgust and disrespect and I have let them know it via email and phone calls.

The Rinos have really outed themselves. The same old, same old on the Sunday shows. Where oh where are those conservative voices? Is there not a leader in the whole bunch?

Well put and I fully agree with that.

Here 's Hugh Hewitt on The Domenici Effect:.

The Times is running a graphic with the faces of Senators Warner, Lugar, Voinovich and Domenici under the heading "Senators Advocate Change In Iraq Policy."  What do the four share in common except a loss of confidence in the troops and their ability to win?  Senator Voinovich is 70; Senators Domenici and Lugar 75, Senator Warner 80.

Though Senator Voinovich only joined the club in 1999, Senator Domenici has been in the Senate for 35 years, Senators Lugar and Warner 29 years.  The combination of advanced age and long tenure in government seems to increase a senator's sense of self-importance even as it decreases their connection to the GOP's base.

Each of these senators was re-elected after 9/11 and each of them ran on a platform of supporting the president and the war.  Their loss of confidence in the troops and in victory will no doubt surprise many of their supporters.  If they run for re-election, the surprise will be if they win, not if they lose.

Meanwhile, it 's time for Senator Lieberman for some shock.

Where oh where are those conservative voices?

They weren't invited to the liberal "fairness doctrine" Sunday talk shows.

We’re told that a month is a long time in politics and yet these elites feel completely confident in making predictions on elections years in advance.

Sunday anchors decide their guests, not the other way. In that, Brit Hume's biggest mistake is recommending Wallace for FNS. Never milk a snake.

What are they smoking, there maybe some disagreement within the party but “not be around” that is a stupid statement.

It's just part of their agenda to shape the "news" and manage the message. Their prognostications are indicators of what they intend to bring about.

They have to be asked to appear on the shows they can be a bold a leader as they like but unless they probably do something that hurts them or the party they are unlikely to be mentioned by the MSM let alone invited on a talk show.

Thanks for the Novak link... the book sounds like a good primer for any chump who believes Libby is guilty... OF ANYTHING.

It’s simply a combination of wishful thinking and their belief that because the GOP in Washington was divided then the base itself must be as well. The GOP has been in much worse shape in the past.

On Fox News Watch, Jane Hall and Neal Gabler ‘outed’ the lib/dims - it was about Iraq. Jim Pinderton called them on it.

Per the MTP round table discussion, the GOP is falling apart because historically, we always pre-select a Presidential candidate because “it’s his turn.” The liberals are confused by the vase array of candidates this time.

And man don’t they get ticked off when the masses dare to change the outcome that they had intended to bring about.
