Thompson lobbied for abortion-rights group, it says
Los Angeles Times ^ | July 7, 2007 | Michael Finnegan

Posted on 07/07/2007 6:47:26 PM PDT by f150sound

Former Rep. Michael D. Barnes (D-Md.), a colleague at the lobbying and law firm where Thompson worked, said that DeSarno had asked him to recommend someone for the lobbying work and that he had suggested Thompson. He said it was "absolutely bizarre" for Thompson to deny that he lobbied against the abortion counseling rule.

"I talked to him while he was doing it, and I talked to [DeSarno] about the fact that she was very pleased with the work that he was doing for her organization," said Barnes. "I have strong, total recollection of that. This is not something I dreamed up or she dreamed up. This is fact."

DeSarno said that Thompson, after being hired, reported to her that he had held multiple conversations about the abortion rule with Sununu, who was then the White House chief of staff and the president's point man on the rule.

Thompson kept her updated on his progress in telephone conversations and over meals at Washington restaurants, including dinner at Galileo and lunch at the Monocle, she said. At one of the meals, she recalled, Thompson told her that Sununu had just given him tickets for a VIP tour of the White House for a Thompson son and his wife.

"It would be an odd thing for me to construct that thing out of whole cloth," DeSarno said. "It happened, and I think it's quite astonishing they're denying it."

Yes or no? I might forgive Thompson even if he accepted this work. Reluctantly. But what is really bugging me is the denial if it's true. Right now I'm leaning toward thinking he did accept the work. As someone who was pretty enthusiastic about the prospect of a Thompson candidacy, now I think I'll keep looking. I won't vote for a pro-abort or a pro-abort in disguise. Period.

Can they produce documents with signatures? Checks? Etc?

I don’t believe it until there’s evidence, I doubt we’re hearing anything close to the unvarnished truth.

The target for this is you and I.

Already posted twice today, and maybe more. It’s a hit piece by the Hillary machine, so take it for what it’s worth.

As usual, NO EVIDENCE to support this charge so it’s the usual SMEAR attack. Liberals really fear Thomson.

Mostly anything written in the LA Times is a lie.

Saves a lot of reading time if you check both the "newspaper" and the "journalist" before you start reading...

Yea, thats what I like ripping people a new one for stuff that happened decades ago, even though they have been on the correct side of an issue for dozens of years currently.

You know I believe everything a Hillary supporter blathers to the LA Times. It has to be true.

Michael D. Barnes [MOONBAT LOSER: Would you buy a used car from this man?]

Former Maryland Congressman Michael D. Barnes is President of the Brady Center and Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence united with the Million Mom March, the nation’s largest national, non-partisan, grassroots organizations working to reduce gun violence, which takes the lives of 30,000 Americans each year. Mr. Barnes assumed this position on March 1, 2000.

From 1979 to 1987 Mr. Barnes served in the U.S. House of Representatives. During his tenure he chaired the House Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere Affairs, championing human rights and democracy as civil wars raged in Central America. He also led the national fight against drunk driving, helping to start Mothers Against Drunk Driving. He was a member of the Democratic Party’s leadership, serving as Assistant Majority Whip. Mr. Barnes served in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 to 1969. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, studied international economics at the Graduate Institute of Higher International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland, and received his J.D. with honors from the George Washington University Law School.

After his Congressional service, Mr. Barnes continued to involve himself in national and international issues as a senior partner in the law firm of Hogan & Hartson, Washington’s largest. He served as the principal international advocate for the successful restoration of democracy in Haiti, and as counsel for the governments of Chile, Cyprus, Mexico, Panama and South Korea. He also served as Chairman of the Center for National Policy, Co-Chairman of the NAFTA Congressional Caucus and Forum, Co-Chairman of the U.S. Committee for the United Nations Development Programme, and Chairman of the U.S.-Panama Business Council.

Tainted by this? Puh_leeez. You really believe what some Hillary campaign supporter says happened over 10 years ago without one shred of evidence? My high school newspaper had higher standards on what they would print over the LA Times.

Yea, thats what I like ripping people a new one for stuff that happened decades ago, even though they have been on the correct side of an issue for dozens of years currently.

That only covers the original pro-abort work. Like I say, what bothers me about it is that I think it happened and I don't like politicians think they can dupe me.

I don't believe much of what RATS say but the specificity of the recollections is convincing to me. I have a hard time believing the people who say they hired him just made up these events. We already know he was a lobbyist and we've already seen the clips of him making pro abort comments.

Basically the denial stinks to me and I'm not someone who is going to go along to get along and PRETEND they believe the denial. I don't cover for pro-aborts because we have plenty of real pro lifers to choose from.

That guy is the President of the Brady bunch? That should tell any conservative voter what this guys credentials are. Might as well be the President for the Communist Party of America.
