BOSTON (Reuters) - Health authorities in Canada and Massachusetts are warning consumers of the risk from China-made counterfeit toothpaste after more tainted products were found, deepening concern about the safety of Chinese goods.

Preliminary tests conducted in Canada on counterfeit Colgate toothpaste indicate the fake products may contain even more harmful bacteria than authorities first suspected, Health Canada officials said on Friday.

Canadian authorities urged consumers on June 29 to avoid Chinese toothpaste in the Canadian market because 21 products were found laced with harmful levels of diethylene glycol, an industrial solvent used in some antifreeze products.

New York-based Colgate-Palmolive Co. has said the products are fakes and that it does not use, nor has ever used, diethylene glycol as an ingredient in its toothpaste anywhere in the world. The chemical, also known as DEG and sometimes illegally used as an inexpensive sweetener and thickening agent SNIP

"Despite FDA's efforts, suspect products continue to be found, including in Massachusetts -- mostly in small, independent dollar-type discount stores," the statement said.

Colgate-Palmolive has said it was working closely with the FDA to identify those responsible

SNIP

The warnings come amid growing concern in the United States and Latin America over the safety of Chinese products after a series of recalls and bans on items ranging from children's toys to toothpaste.

In Panama, 83 people have died after taking medicines contaminated with a Chinese-made toxin last year and the death toll is expected to rise, a senior prosecutor investigating how the medicines became adulterated said on Thursday.

My question, where is that great high murkily muck Senor Miguel Jerktoff, Homeland Security Director and what is he doing to protect America from phony Chinese goods.

Senor Miguel Jerktoff AKA Immigration Michael Chertoff, a RINO Republican who counts himself to be in a small minority of non-bigoted, non-arrogant, non-ignorant elitist Washington D.C. bureaucrats, told congress today that it was either the Right Wing base or Michael D. Browns fault.

Brownie, as the President knows him, took the fall for all of the U.S. government, State of Louisiana and Oreo Ray Noggins ineptness and mishandling of Katrina.

Brownie resigned September 2005 following his controversial handling of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina said Michael Chertoff HSD.

When questioned further by Democrat Congresswoman Nancy Peloser why the Southern Border was not being secured, Senor Jerktoff said, "Ask Brownie, it's his fault".

I am not sure just how much toothpaste is manufactured in South America.

I remember studying and doing a research paper on Colgate and a toothpaste manufacturing problem in a South American plant.

That was 30 years ago when I was working on an MBA and the plant had been in operation for several years.

I spent some time in Panama and was surprised that many citizens are still angry at Jimmy Boobs Carter for selling them out on the Panama Canal Treaty.

Why we importe anything from those commies is beyond me.

Almost every single product in Wal-Mart is made in China. I bought two large soup cups last week - perfect size for my favorite recipes. When I went to wash them, there was a little sticker on one that read: “WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.” On the bottom: “Made in China”

Why do we have *anything* for sale in this country that has to be labeled with such a warning?

Everything in California has that stupid warning.

But, I would never buy anything I’d cook in or eat from that was made in China.

Up until about a month ago, I was using Colgate Total, as recommended by my dentist, but my tongue and inner mouth tissues were becoming very irritated and raw. So I switched to Peelu, made in America, with all natural materials, a little spendy, but well worth it, and my mouth improved immediately.

So I ordered six and picked them up at my Wild Oats (Organic grocery) store today to give to each of my children and their families. Though I’d purchased my Colgate at Krogers, it is no longer made in the U.S.A. so that means it was made in China.

Ask for Peelu at your store.

Check out Tom’s of Maine toothpaste. Here’s the website:

I believe it’s made in the US, too, and available at WalMart.

Comment:

We have to have those ignorant label laws because politically correct liberal Kalifornia would not want to offend the multicultural world.

Another words it’s OK to ban DDT in Uganda but OK for citizens of this state to be subjected to Major peril from our vicious trading partners.

Remember as a citizen of Kalifornia you have less (LESS) rights than a border jumper doing jobs that real citizens will not do.

I want Kalifornia to act responsible towards it’s citizens but evidently the majority dosen’t think the way I do.

When I lived in South America was surprised to learn that a majority of tooth paste is manufactured or processed in Venezuela.

With Hugo Chavez in charge we may someday have a toothpaste shortage. LOL

I was on business in Singapore several years ago and met with a Japanese manufacturer for a meeting over cocktails.

I ask him what he thought of buying a certain product from China and he let me know quickly that the Chinese were unscrupulous business dealers and that they could not be trusted.

At the time I did not have a real understanding of what he was saying and chalked it up to sour grapes.

However, these last few months of warnings have opened my eyes.
