Myth shattered

By MICHAEL COREN
Toronto Sun, Saturday, July 7, 2007

It has been a week for murderers, hypocrites and heroes. In Britain a group of Muslim doctors and medical students have been arrested in connection with a series of attempts to murder thousands of innocent people waiting to board aircraft or, sin of sins, dancing in a club.

Commentators were incredulous that people of science sworn to do none harm should apparently act thus. Fools. The doctors' unions in Egypt and Jordan are dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood, a fascist group that preaches jihad. The second in command of Al Qaida is a pediatrician and one of the founders of Hamas a surgeon.

The idea that poverty and oppression produce psychotic mass murderers has always been a patronizing illusion. Egyptian universities churn out fundamentalist fanatics, the Saudi middle class is riddled with extremism.

But none of this would happen, argue the appeasers, if America and Israel left the Middle East alone. Tell this to the Christians of Egypt, Syria, Palestine and North Africa. They had done nothing to provoke the Islamic armies that invaded their countries, imposed Muslim rule, converted at sword-point and humiliated those who remained Christian and Jewish as second-class citizens.

Yet still in the west we hear the usual moans. There is fundamentalism in all religions, they say, and we should be careful not to judge. Well, next time I'm at the airport I'll make sure to look around for any Christian, Jewish or Buddhist fundamentalists who are obsessed with slaughtering me and my children.

Britain, just like Canada and any other non-Islamic state, is considered to be part of the House of War. As such it is acceptable to kill its people. Be warned, compromise will not save you. Mind you, the worst horrors are kept for other Muslims. Fundamentalist gangs killed 150,000 Algerians just to destabilize the government!

In Gaza, however, Hamas engineered the release of BBC journalist Alan Johnston. Look, they shouted, we are moderate. The man's freedom is worthy of celebration. Perhaps he can now persuade Hamas to change its charter and remove Article Seven.

"The Islamic Resistance Movement aspires to the realization of Allah's promise, no matter how long that should take. The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him salvation, has said: "The Day of Judgment will not come about until Muslims fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Muslims, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him. Only the gharkad tree, (evidently a certain kind of tree) would not do that because it is one of the trees of the Jews," (related by al-Bukhari and Muslim)."

Perhaps the last word should go to Judea Pearl, father of Daniel. A less fortunate journalist than Alan Johnston, he was tortured and beheaded. Criticizing the movie A Mighty Heart and its clumsy attempt to compare Islamic terrorists with CIA agents and Muslim murder chambers with Guantanamo Bay, Judea Pearl wrote of the film and his son, "Moral relativism died with Daniel Pearl, in Karachi, in Jan. 31, 2002. There was a time when drawing moral symmetries between two sides of every conflict was a mark of original thinking. Today, it reflects nothing but lazy conformity."

Tell this to the elites, the chatterers, the policy-makers and the editorial writers. Tell it loud and never stop.

Liberalism is a mental illness.

Let the appeasers move to the middle east and accept Dhimmitude.

Liberals are very slow to give up cherished templates, no matter how dangerous to clear thinking they are. If this template is “shattered”, not many libs have gotten the memo, and I suspect it will be easy for them to suffer a relapse. For example, look at how quickly the template of Vietnam was given new life by the invasion of Iraq.

If this myth is shattered, what myth will replace it and how clearly with that myth give us guidance to properly deal with the Islamists? Given that Islamism harmonizes with many themes of the self-loathing, America-hating left, how difficult will it be for the left to see just how dangerous Islamism really is?

Very. It’s a matter of giving up their identity as liberals. That’s why it’s so difficult for them to admit the truth in front of their eyes. To do so would put them on the side of conservatives, and for most liberals this will be unacceptable until the bitter end. People don’t give up their identities easily...it’s a kind of death. So they prefer to defend the indefensible even when it puts them on the side of murderers and tyrants. Incredible.

Dr. Mengele comes to mind also.

I was listening to an interview with Michael Barone. In talking about Viet-Nam, he said (I paraphrase) we can talk about Viet Nam, but only if you agree that Viet Nam would’ve been better off if the North had not won. If you can’t say that we have nothing to say to each other.

Liberalism is a mental illness.

In this example it is a rare pathology in that not only is it a serious illness, but it seems to afflict a certain religion so close to 100% as to not matter...

You're both welcome.
