London - An estimated two billion people worldwide have watched the Live Earth concerts on the television. The shows designed to highlight climate change were organised in Australia, Asia, Europe, South Africa and the United States. Dozens of stars such as Crowded House, Madonna and The Red Hot Chili Peppers performed in cities which included Sydney, New York and London.
The global series of concerts kicked off in Sydney Australia where the show started with a traditional welcome dance by members of the Aboriginal community. Live Earth is the brainchild of former US presidential candidate Al Gore. He opened the event in Washington, and spoke to the public in Tokyo via satellite, saying it was high time to heal the planet. Live Earth is ending with a concert in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday evening.
Do we REALLY care?
Madonna thanked Al Gore, the brainchild of the nine concerts across the globe, “for giving the world the wake-up call it so badly needs and for starting an avalanche of awareness that we are running out of time”.
She said: “Lets hope tonight’s concert and the concerts going on around the world are not just about entertainment but starting a revolution around the world. If you want to save the planet let me see you jump.”
Oddly enough, the “Fairness Doctrine,” if re-enacted, never applies to nonsense like this.
heh heh! No doubt. More intelligence being shown in that movie than by all these clowns who participated or watched this farce.
Madonna gets 2 billion feet tapping
Run the numbers! :)
Count em again!
I guess if we added into the equation the actual number of people who cared, he’d have achieved several times that!
They felt like making that number up.
And people who spend their time on these boards do....
Yep, the comedy on this board today has had me rolling all day. Turn off the Live Earth concert you are watching and join the fun..
“Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”
Pardon my french, Didn’t want to bowlderize the quote without permission of the author.
30 % of the population doesn’t have electricity much less a TV.
I think they got their numbers from 1 billion people turning it off. several times.
The organisers had billed it as a concert for two billion people.
But the global interest in the Live Earth “save-the-planet” concerts appears to have fallen well short of expectations.
The Johannesburg event failed to sell out, only 3,000 people watched in Shanghai and Australians tuned into Wimbledon instead.
Meanwhile, Wembley was only half-full until the mid-afternoon and fans in Hamburg were drenched by torrential rain.
Madonna topped the bill at Wembley, where tickets were £55 and fans had to put up with a series of gaffes and even crude jokes.
The same way they know about Global Warming.
They believed it, so it is true.
When they find out 1.5 Billion people were laughing, they will have an explanation for that as well.
It’s Farakan math.
Wow, they must be REALLY, REALLY smart to know that. Just think about what else they know.
you almost owed me a new keyboard..:-)
