London - An estimated two billion people worldwide have watched the Live Earth concerts on the television. The shows designed to highlight climate change were organised in Australia, Asia, Europe, South Africa and the United States. Dozens of stars such as Crowded House, Madonna and The Red Hot Chili Peppers performed in cities which included Sydney, New York and London.

The global series of concerts kicked off in Sydney Australia where the show started with a traditional welcome dance by members of the Aboriginal community. Live Earth is the brainchild of former US presidential candidate Al Gore. He opened the event in Washington, and spoke to the public in Tokyo via satellite, saying it was high time to heal the planet. Live Earth is ending with a concert in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday evening.

The Dutch, who put a number on the viewers, have a saying: If it ain't Dutch, it ain't much. So get Faux to tell us nobody watched. You'll probably believe that.

WELL YA got me there....innovative yet deceptively effective.....

Sorry to insult Pink Floyd. Roger Waters sucked. That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it. LOL!

I watched about 5 minutes of it. Algore was in the middle of his carbon offset infomercial, so I kept on surfing.

Does that count?

Hmm, 1/3 of all men, women, children, people in comas, people in prisons, people in armies, people who don’t even know what a TV is, and everyone else watched this thing? Wow.

How do they know 2 billion people watched it?

They can't. It's like the annual and bogus numbers about how many people watch the Oscars every year. I'm not convinced there are two billion functioning televisions in the world.

Watch snopes.com -- the Oscar claim is an old story for them, and I bet they seem the same familiar tones I do.

If there is any basis for the claim at all,. I'm guessing it was based on every TV in a bar, cafe, barbershop or restaurant; every TV on a street corner or in a shop window; and every newscast that carried any part of it, on the assumption that anyone in the vicinity when any one of those aired must have caught at least a glimpse of it.

There basis is that's the number Al Gore and others were saying DURING the concert

How do they know 2 billion people watched it?

Count was probably done by the same bunch that reported on the "Million(?) Man March."

2 billion watchers DOES NOT MEAN 2 billion pro-Gore thinking. It’s a crock...Like Hillary being at a Yankee game.

The world population reached 6.6 Billion in 2007 so the figure of 2 Billion watchers is ridiculous. It would mean that every family had a TV and every TV was on.
