Global Warming: it's not caused by greenhouse gases says academic

Last Update: Friday, July 6, 2007. 3:57pm AEST

By Julia Harris

An Australian academic has spoken out against the popular view that global warming is caused by greenhouse gas emissions. He believes that global warming and climate change are caused by cycles in the sun's electro-magnetic radiation. He says scientists are taking a narrow view and politicians are making policy with the wrong information.

Emeritus Professor Lance Endersbee AO is a former Dean of Engineering and Pro-Vice Chancellor of Monash University. He told Tom Harwood, ABC Western Queensland's Morning Program producer that the world has been warming naturally due to increased magnetic radiation from the sun.

One thousand years ago the Vikings were in Greenland, and they settled there and it was a warm period, known as the medieval warm period and Europe was prosperous," he said. "And then from about 1300 on it got progressively colder and in the time of the 1600s it was terribly cold in Europe. Finland lost about one-third of their population and the Thames froze over regularly every year and people were able to travel from London up the river on sleighs - so it was a different climate," explained Professor Endersbee.

According to Al Gore’s movie, there are 0 scientists who disagree with him. This guy must be made up. The Goracle couldn’t possibly be wrong!

He said a lot of the business of carbon trading and global warming is just a popular delusion. He refers to a book written by Mackay in the 1840s called "Extraordinary popular delusions and the madness of crowds".

"We've got it now... he could se it 150 years ago - the crowd is mad!"

You tell em professor!

It is a bit naive to think that at least part of global warming is not caused by greenhouse gases. But it is downright stupid to think the sun’s cycles do not play a significant role as the current ‘consensus’ seems to believe. No one knows all the answers, but one thing is for certain, the global warming crowd is full of manure on the propaganda they spread.

Al Gore is educated in making money. Follow the money. If Gore wasn’t making millions this weekend with his concerts around the world, he wouldn’t be doing it. What’s the name of his company selling carbon credits?

And most of the proponents don't care a lick about global warming -- to them it's a tool for global socialism.

Their ‘solutions’ are an absolute joke. And they completely ignore real solutions like nuclear power, assuming you consider global warming to be a grave threat to the earth. There is no logic to the global warming positions unless you look at it as a ploy for global governance.

“is a bit naive to think that at least part of global warming is not caused by greenhouse gases”

Only if you consider water vapor a greenhous gas. CO2 spikes do not preceed warming they lag it by 150 years.

The book is now available at Project Gutenberg: Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds

Wikipedia summary: popular history of popular folly by Charles Mackay, first published in 1841

All wrong. It is caused by Al Gore and his worldwide concert today. Hundreds of tons of greenhouse gas produced by this thing. Proceeds go to “Alliance For Climate Protection”. An Al Gore company. VERY few articles on this event mention this little fact. The Alliance will plant trees to “offset” some of the GHG produced. Small trees that will take years before they can even begin to make a dent. How foolish do these people think we are? It is an insult to me that Al thinks I am stupid enough to fall for his scheme.

Sure Dr. Endersbee can do science, but can he play a guitar?

Well there are still tons of unknowns in this 'settled' science. The science is so 'settled' they still don't know how minor things like cloud cover is going to effect it and they completely discount the sun's impact. I would not completely discount the possibility that increased CO2 levels could alter the climate, but the current so-called 'consensus' is dangerously stupid.
