Not being into music, the only initials I recognize are CCR. This whole Gore-run farce is DuMB.

“Morning Has Broken” was around long before Cat Stevens. It was originally written in 1931 and set to the tune of the hymn “Child in the Manger,” from 1888.

He’s performing in Hamburg? Why is that name familiar to me?

“3 detained in Hamburg over terrorism scare” http://www.iht.com/articles/2005/08/26/news/hamburg.php

“The Hamburg cell was, according to U.S. and German intelligence agencies, a group of radical Islamists that included students who eventually came to be key operatives in the 9/11 attacks”- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamburg_cell

It is all hieroglyphics. Kind of like reading vanity plates to figure out rappers names.

I’m a musician too, only classical, and do follow pop music, but haven’t heard of a few of these folks - maybe the bottom of the barrel?

Cat Stevens had a great album in ‘78. Remember the Days of the Old Schoolyard was one of the songs on it. John Russell’s sister used to listen to it all the time. Everytime I hear it, I think of Roma. It shame Cat turned into a Jihadist..

Official: Cat Stevens Has Possible Terror Ties

Excerpt:

The singer formerly known as Cat Stevens (search) is forbidden from flying into the United States because of his alleged association with possible terrorists, U.S. officials said Wednesday in explaining why a London-to-Washington flight carrying the peace activist was diverted.

The claim was disputed by the brother of the London-born singer, who changed his name to Yusuf Islam more than 25 years ago.

David Gordon (search) said his brother has condemned terrorist acts and donates money to terrorism victims. “He just wants to be an ambassador for peace,” said Gordon, who lives in Princeton, N.J., and serves as Islam’s business manager.

Thought you would get a kick out of the Hamburg lineup:

The Sueddeutschezeitung in Munich reports that "Live Earth" Hamburg kicks off with Shakira, the Colombian singer, in the early afternoon followed by a bunch of big-name performers: Chris Cornell, Enrique Iglesias, Snoop Dogg, Jan Delay, Mia, Roger Cicero, Reamonn, Michael Mittermeier, Silbermond and Juli. (We'll accept that they're all big names.) Finally, then, the late addition, Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), will close the evening at around 11 p.m. But there's more!

In addition, 60 short films and 30 public service announcements will be shown during the breaks between bands. At about 8 p.m. Al Gore himself will be switched in from New York to ask the audience to sign a seven-point-declaration to pressure governments to ratify climate treaties.

Ach, mensch. Sixty films, 30 PSAs, high-minded Germans earnestly lecturing and lecturing and lecturing? Preachy imploring for a seven-point action plan on behalf of protocols of codicils of declarations?

No wonder they're giving away tickets.
