BANGALORE: "I am involved in a large scale confidential project. It is about global warming. I cannot reveal the details. It involves a lot of travelling. I have to present a lot of papers at various places. The project has to be started in the United Kingdom. After starting it there, I will come back to Bangalore and continue it from here.
Various people from various countries are involved in this. There is an Indian with me and he is helping me out. He has given his car to me for travelling. During the project work in the UK, I will not be available by any means — phone or internet — for a week. So, please do not worry."
This is what Kafeel Ahmed told his parents and sister before leaving Bangalore for the UK on May 5, 2007. The last call he made to his family was on June 30 (last Saturday). Kafeel, who had called from Iceland, spoke to his mother Dr Zakia Ahmed and sister Sadia Ahmed. He told them, "I had told you earlier that sometime in future I will be inaccessible for a week. The time has come now. I will go to that place, finish that work and go to London and will return to Bangalore from there. All this may take a month’s time."
He had also told his mother and sister that his earlier presentation failed and asked them to pray for him this time.
The investigators are trying to decipher the meaning of his words. They are interpreting his words, "large scale confidential project work", as terror plans. The word "presentation" is interpreted as terror attack. "Presentation not accepted" is seen as a foiled attack.
Although police in UK have declined to confirm if Kafeel Ahmed is the same person as Khalid Ahmed, the man in the flaming jeep that attacked Glasgow airport on Saturday and is lying in hospital with 90% burns, top-level sources in the security establishment appear certain that they are one and the same person.
On Wednesday, when the foreign media reported about the elder brother being involved in the crime, a few leads could be gathered here. One, the mother, Zakia Ahmed, refusing to disclose the whereabouts of her first son and also denying that he was in UK. Second, a scrap in brother Sabeel’s Orkut from a friend asking when Kafeel would return.
In contrast to his mother’s statement, Kafeel is indeed in UK now.
And it turned out to be highly localized warming instead.

This one was not a medical doctor. He was an aeronautical engineer working on his PhD. (Not an M.D., I suppose that makes the “global warming” story more plausible to parents)

Even Iceland where 20 scientists who are also musicians will play for the event from Iceland.
Still waiting for Al Gores’ big announcement today that he claimed he would reveal today Friday the day before the Concert.
We are going to watch so we can enjoy making satire and LOAO.
Why would the Mom/family tell authorities about her son doing this hush hush project?
Are terrorists going to hold hands with Al Gore Saturday or attack multiple sites of the concerts?
This is kind of interesting.
An engineer? I don't believe it. Any engineer that can't manage to build a simple car bomb that actually works should turn in his slide rule...er.. calculator. :). I can think of several different ways to do the deed, and I'm only a systems engineer with an MS in Electrical/Electronic Engineering...plus 30 years in the defense industry. But not making things that go boom.. well.. not directly anyway. My work has been on finding the things to use the "boom" on, or getting the "Boom" to the target.
