(NY Gov) Spitzer spied, Bruno charges (Is Joe Bruno getting paranoid?)

Albany, NY (WBEN) - The feud between state Senate Republican leader Joseph Bruno and Democratic Gov. Spitzer has escalated, with Bruno asking Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to investigate whether Spitzer is abusing his office.

The New York Post reported the Spitzer administration has kept more detailed records of Bruno's travels with a state police escort, and authorized special state police surveillance of Bruno.

Spitzer spokesman Darren Dopp denies that, saying Bruno wasn't subject to any special record-keeping by troopers who accompanied him to meetings and events in New York City.

However, Dopp has repeatedly claimed in recent days to The Post that a special monitoring program to track Bruno's whereabouts was put into effect in early April. Spitzer does admit that he ordered a threat assessment to see if the escort is justified.

Meanwhile, Bruno called for a criminal investigation of the Albany Times Union, which he has accused of publishing damaging leaks by Spitzer, then trying to sell him ad space to respond and get fair coverage. Newspaper Publisher Mark Aldam denied the accusation.

The newspaper reported Sunday that state records showed Bruno used state aircraft and police escorts to attend political fundraisers in New York City.

Don’t know if Bruno is paranoid, but....I put nothing past Spitzer. He’s pure evil.

There is no doubt in my mind that Spitzer is doing what he is accused of and more. He is abusing his power now and had in the past as Attorney General. Can't wait to see what the Native Americans will do when Spitzer tries to collect sales tax on gas and tobacco products.

In Buffalo, the Native Americans opened a temporary casino in a steel building erected without a permit. Well, the city sold the land and now it's sovereign territory. The feathers are flying around the city. Love it! Finally, there's someone getting something done without all the payoff's to the unions.

I remember what Sean Hannity had Spitzer on his radio show, long before he became governor.

He threated Hannity over the phone on live radio.

New Threat Charge Leveled vs. Spitzer (gov’t powers used to terrorize Hannity—Sean has audiotape)
NY Post ^ | January 3, 2006 | FREDRIC U. DICKER

EXCLUSIVE

AG General Eliot Spitzer is being accused again of threatening to use his office to punish an opponent — this time, nationally syndicated radio talk-show host Sean Hannity.

Eric Stanger.....said Spitzer was a telephone guest on the Hannity show in 2000 and at first hung up in anger in response to comments made by the conservative-oriented host.

“A minute later, the hot line was ringing. It was Spitzer, very angry, very agitated, very upset....’Let me tell you something: I fully intend to use the capacity of my office to act on this,’ “ Stanger told The Post.

“I was really floored, and I said, ‘Is that a threat, sir?’ “ ......Spitzer “quickly changed his tone,” insisting, “No, no, no. It’s not a threat.”

.......Spitzer then threatened to organize a boycott of the Hannity show, saying, “ ‘I have a lot of friends in government, and I’m going to organize a boycott of the show.’ And then he hung up.”

Stanger said he immediately went on the air and described what had occurred, noting that “Sean definitely took it as a threat.”

Stanger told The Post the alleged threat reminded him of the charges now being leveled by Lower Manhattan Development Corp. Chairman John Whitehead......

.....Hannity has ordered that a search be made for the audiotape of the incident and, if found, may play it on his show this week.

A Spitzer spokesman complained Hannity made outrageous attacks on Hillary [Clinton]...........

.......Whitehead, former chairman of Goldman Sachs and longtime GOP contributor, leveled his bombshell charge that, after writing an opinion piece for The WSJ, he received a call from Spitzer.

Spitzer said, “.... it’s now a war between us and you’ve fired the first shot . . . I will be coming after you. You will pay the price.”

"...with Bruno asking Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to investigate whether Spitzer is abusing his office. "

Ha!! Yeah, that'll happen... Cuomo is as corrupt as Spitzer. It's like asking Göring to investigate Hitler.

It’s Spitzer who is paranoid. He doesn’t understand why everyone won’t roll over for him like his minions in the DA’s office use to.

Joe Bruno is a 78 years old meglomaniac who will never leave office unless pushed out - his age has effected his thinking.

Elliot Spitzer is a rich elitist liberal who never had anyone say no to him so when he doesn’t get his way he acted like a child.

New York is also blessed with Hillary and Schumer as senators and Boy Cuomo as attorney general.

Ask yourselves, is it any wonder people are leaving New York in droves, the economy is based on high taxes, massive regulations and the only new business locations must be bribed with tazpayer funds.

A mess?? That’s an understatement

I don’t like Spitzer. He’s in a close contest with The Deval Patrick of Queer-achusetts for the worst governor in the nation.

Spitzer’s going to screw up before much longer, watch and see. His brand of arrogance is predictable.

Here's my idea along those lines: Give New York and Philly to New Jersey and upstate will merge with Western Pennsylvania. Then we work on breaking up the unions.

Joe Bruno is a 78 years old meglomaniac who will never leave office unless pushed out - his age has effected his thinking.

Unfortunately he's also a liberal RINO whose only GOP qualities are that he despises the Democrats. Like I've said before, he's the Harry Reid of the New York Legislature. Worse yet, all the Republicans in the Senate (including my state senator) follow him lock step... sigh... where's a Pat McGee type when you need one?

I have no doubt that Spitzer's an egomaniacal nutcase, but Joe Bruno isn't much better. He is under investigation by the FBI already.

And like someone said before, good luck with getting Spitzer's hand-anointed successor (and a Cuomo) to investigate his good buddy. It's not going to happen.
