'Illegal' Crime (Jesse Diaz, Illegal Immigrant Advocate, Carjacked)

A funny thing happened to a pro-illegal immigrant activist this week in Dallas, Texas. The activist, a League of United Latin American Citizens representative named Jesse Diaz, was carjacked.

Obviously there’s nothing funny about someone sticking a gun in another person’s face and stealing his car. This isn’t funny as in hardy-har-har. And everyone is relieved that Mr. Diaz wasn’t hurt by the punk who threatened his life and stole his vehicle in broad daylight.

Joe Pettimato holds a sign supporting Hazelton Mayor Lou Barletta as he attends a rally in support of immigrant issues in Scranton, Pennsylvania, March 12, 2007. A Pennsylvania town's anti-illegal immigration law created a climate of fear in which businesses failed and people moved out, a lawyer argued on Monday as a trial seen as a test of U.S. immigration policy began. The result of the case, the first federal trial over whether local jurisdictions can make their own laws on illegal immigration, is expected to affect cities and towns across the United States as the country debates what to do with the 12 million illegal aliens estimated to be inside its borders. But the amusing part of this crime is what happened afterward.

It seems that Mr. Diaz is plenty steamed that it took the Dallas Police Department a long time to respond to his repeated 911 calls. He told the local NBC-TV affiliate in Dallas, “I always thought that the police would arrive a lot sooner than the 30 minutes it took them to arrive.”

Internal investigations, numerous press conferences, and the inevitable series of picketers and protesters are certain to follow. It will just be a matter of time before Mr. Diaz tries to convince the world that the Dallas Police Department doesn’t really care about a well-known Hispanic illegal immigrant advocate being robbed at gunpoint.

But his angst is misplaced. After all, the newly-elected mayor of Dallas, Tom Leppert, has promised to open a taxpayer-funded immigration office. According to the Dallas Morning News, this office would help immigrants – both legal and illegal – “assimilate” into the city and North Texas region.

Wow. An office funded by hard-working taxpayers which would teach illegals everything they need to know about assimilation, perhaps like obtaining free health care, snagging a job, or placing their children into Dallas-area public schools.

Maybe this will start a trend all over the country. Cities like Dallas and Los Angeles and New York could open up government offices that will help kidnappers “assimilate” into a nice, productive life. Child rapists could get counseling on where the maximum amount of kids congregates. Burglars could go downtown to the “Burglary Assimilation Office” and find out which homeowners are on their summer vacations.

And the illegal immigration insanity continues.

Before Mr. Diaz gets all worked up in demanding expensive investigations into why it took the police 23 minutes to arrive at his crime scene, I can offer a pretty simple explanation. You see, Dallas has emerged as one of the most dangerous cities in America. And the 800-pound gorilla in the room is the knowledge that much of this crime is being committed by illegal immigrants.

Wonder if the CarJackers were illegals? That would make the story priceless. We may never know, but what we do know:

"..Diaz was in his ’92 Mercedes outside the rental home he manages in Southeast Dallas (carjacked in the 10300 block of New Bedford Drive) when he said the culprit’s gun misfired."

“I felt the gun behind me and I heard a click,” he said. “That's what startled me and I turned. I saw that person holding a gun.”

Diaz exited his vehicle and handed his keys to the culprit.

“Your heart is beating and you say, 'Is this going to be the end of my life?'" he said. “Instead of my wife cooking dinner for me, is she going to be preparing for my funeral?”

Diaz said he called 911 four times before the police arrived. Dallas police Lt. Vernon Hale said they are investigating the slow response time that Diaz claimed.

“It'd be a higher priority call, certainly that wouldn't control the travel time,” he said. “It only took six minutes for the dispatcher to dispatch the call so the travel time is what the debate is about.”

A police spokesman said the dispatch logs indicated that officers arrived at the scene 17 minutes after being sent -- 23 minutes after the initial call. Diaz said that’s still too long for a priority call.

Hale said investigators are making progress in the case as the car was recovered and they have begun questioning people.

“Someone did identify several suspects jumping out of the car,” he said. “We don't know who they are, but we have picked up someone.” -NBC5i

Call for a pizza, call for an ambulance and call for the police. See who shows up first.

I always thought that the police would arrive a lot sooner than the 30 minutes it took them to arrive.

The police don't have any obligation to protect any particular individual. It's not physically possible or practical to begin with.

Illegal Immigrant activists tell us that this is the religious thing to do, give them shelter and invite them in.

Jesus said that if a thief demands your money you should give it to him and your cloak.

So give up that car already, it is the compassionate thing to do.

I am not decrying the Christian approach, I’m saying that it is a difficult standard to meet. The Socialist Left thinks they can trip up America by selectively citing biblical ideas. I want to see if they would care to be more consistent.

“...the gun misfired...”
Not likely. What is much more likely is that the gun didn’t have any ammunition in it. That way if the gun ‘fails to misfire’ the perp hasn’t comitted murder instead of hijacking.

"During my many years of research on crime in Dallas, I have analyzed the demographics of those groups who commit the most crime. The research revealed that Hispanics, especially "illegal" Hispanics, commit a much higher and disproportinate percentage of the crime than the population in general. It is no coincidence that Dallas, San Antonio, Houston and Phoenix rate #1 thru #4, respectively, in crime per capita among the major cities. All these cities have high numbers of "illegals".--TOM TANCREDO on Dallas Crime.

Its not hard to understand an “illegal’s” perception that he’s sly enough to not get caught by LaMigra or the police for being here illegally, the “illegal” assumes he can rape, car-jack or hold up the 7-11 and won’t get caught. AND IS PROBABLY CORRECT in that assumption.

Please note that in an effort to be a comassionate conservative I did not call this illegal a WETBACK!!

Wouldn't a failure to misfire result in a succesful discharge?

That’s right, and a carjacking would have been a killing. My point is that the perp likely had an unloaded gun for this crime. Of course I may be giving the perp way too much credit.....
