WASHINGTON, DC, June 29, 2007— Imagine our surprise when, as we started putting up our banners at the gates of Walter Reed Army hospital, there stood George, Larry and other North Carolina Gathering of Eagles members, last seen by FReepers at the Gathering of Eagles–Chapel Hill. This vanload of citizen patriots would be spending the weekend far from home to cheer the troops as Independence Day was drawing near. They had stopped by our weekly Friday night Walter Reed troop-support rally on their way to a GOE rally and counter-demonstration against northern moonbats at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey on Saturday.

Gathering of Eagles visitors from North Carolina brought some Southern charm and lots of other right stuff to the gates of Walter Reed. Left to right: Lori, Mary, Bubba, Trish, Larry, Mike and George. Several of this group had also attended the first, massive Gathering of Eagles in Washington this past March.

The North Carolinians' presence, the balmy summer evening's lasting light, our enthusiastic FReepers young and old, lots of lurkers joining in and soldiers stopping by combined with the cheering, waving, honking, and cameras thrust out of the open windows of the passing cars to usher in the American birthday week.

[Mrs] Trooprally's photos were abundant and especially wonderful this evening, so this thread will be a photo gallery of a perfect FReep.

Honor roll of attendees:

Our vast right-wing confabulatory outnumbered the pinko demonstrators down the street 36 to 8. Guests from Gathering of Eagles North Carolina included: Bubba; Larry & Lori and daughter Trish; George S; Mike & Mary. FReepers included: 2ndClassCitizen, 3-DJoy, BillF, Cindy-True-Supporter, Fraxinus, GunsAreOK, Jimmy Valentine's brother, Kristinn, PrezUSA222, Sensei Ern, tgslTakoma, Tolerance Sucks Rocks, Tom the Redhunter, Trooprally [Mr & Mrs], Trueblackman, VAflagwaver, VictoryNY, and myself, Albion Wilde.

Lurkers included: Alicia, Andrea, Bill from MD, Gavin, George & Ethel, Loro, Michael from KY, Peter J. from DC, and Sidders.

George brought his duck with him, the "MOAD" — Mother of All Ducks. She showed up the next day at Fort Monmouth.

Army veteran Cindy-True-Supporter and her son, a recently commissioned Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He will report for active duty in Korea next month.

3D-Joy, back from Florida, with [Mr]Trooprally.

Blogger Bubba from North Carolina of WhatBubbaKnows.com, and FReeper Fraxinus.

Poor, pitiful pinkos.

BillF, GOE's George, PrezUSA222 and Sensei Ern, enjoying pizza behind the FReeplines.

Jimmy Valentine's Brother and his cigar, flanked by women soldiers assigned to Walter Reed as lab tech trainees. His sign says it all.

[Mr] Trooprally, GOE-NC's Larry and Tom the Redhunter welcome the Fourth of July week from the northwest corner.

Mike & Mary from GOE-NC in front of Walter Reed's fence on the southwest corner, with FReeper GunsAreOK between them, and the Mother of All Ducks at the left of Mike. DC Chapter co-leader Kristinn at far left, wearing a "Free Republic 10th Anniversary" commemorative T-shirt produced last year by California FReeper Syncro.

FReeper 2ndClassCitizen greets passing cars on the southeast corner, as Bubba of GOE-NC, behind him, waves Old Glory.

Veterans George, Bubba, Trueblackman and Larry (partially visible at right rear).

Lurkers Megan and Alicia with FReeper VAFlagWaver.

Lurker Loro (left) is wearing one of the glow-necklaces passed out by [Mr & Mrs] Trooprally. FReeper VictoryNY yells joyfully to the troops and honking passersby.

Is that a glow-necklace on Sensei Ern's head, or a halo? Like Cindy-True-Supporter, he does lots of good deeds for the troops.

Mike & Mary from GOE-NC, and all the FReepers and lurkers, kept waving long after the pinko agitators down the street had clocked out and gone home.

How cool is this photo of the dinner bus entering the gate, loaded with recovering troops and their family members? It's way kewl. Everybody cheered when it arrived, and...

Combat veteran Sidders danced, all across the Avenue.

What a great night it was at WR that night. It was like electric static in the air. Everyone was in a high spirits.
Even the honks were in the wave of excitement.
Thanks for such a great report.

Great report AWrootbeer. Thanks.

Even though we were there, it's always good to see what happens on the other corners.
