Splitting Hairs, Edwards's Stylist Tells His Side of Story
The Washington Post ^ | July 5, 2007 | John Solomon

For four decades, Joseph Torrenueva has cut the hair of Hollywood celebrities, from Marlon Brando to Bob Barker, so when a friend told him in 2003 that a presidential candidate needed grooming advice, he agreed to help.

The Beverly Hills hairstylist, a Democrat, said he hit it off with then-Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina at a meeting in Los Angeles that brought several fashion experts together to advise the candidate on his appearance. Since then, Torrenueva has cut Edwards's hair at least 16 times.

The first ones are free...

...’til you get hooked...

$1250? Edwards is three times the fool that I already thought he was.

The “fairness doctrine” demands that the apologists for His Primpness point out that Mitt Romney also is “well coifed” *(albeit for $50 a cut)

"He didn't lie about weapons of mass destruction or spring Scooter Libby; he just got some expensive haircuts."

Oh, so the Edwards defense to having some "diverse" hair stylist fly across the country with a carbon footprint bigger than bigfoot's to meet him at numerous locations is to say, "well, Bush lied." Really great logic there from the Breck Girl.

Edwards needs to experience chemotherapy and lose all his hair like his wife did.

Supercuts was getting pricey at $15/cut, so I got a kit at Walmart for $25, and now I do it myself.

You can't put a good spin on a $400 haircut.

"I try to make the man handsome, strong, more mature and these are the things, as an expert, that's what we do."

Strong? A buzz cut will do that. More mature? It looks like a little boy's cut! Our GIs are handsome, strong and mature looking and who does their hair -- and for how much?

Such misplaced values!

There are “Two Americas” — #1 is the society around John Edwards that he acknowledges as his peers and #2 is the rest of us — servants, ordinary people, voters, etc., who are referred to as “that man, those people.” The hair dresser should have realized that Mr. Edwards did not believe that hairdressers belong in the first America. s/off

I was going to say....our $25 set of clippers has more than paid for itself in haircuts for my son and husband. My daughter and I can hit the Hair Cuttery for $15 a pop...I’d feel utterly ridiculous paying $40 for a haircut, much less over $1200!

Only a Democrat would think that a Beverly Hills male hair stylist could make him look strong...

I use a Gillette daily on my head. The Mr. Clean look.

Of course, nature helped me get a good ways there on it’s own, so I just finish the job.

When you pay $400 for a haircut, it has nothing to do with your hair. Edwards feels he DESERVES a $400 haircut. Imelda DESERVED all those shoes. Jim and Tammy Faye were ENTITLED to gold faucets.

When a person buys a Rolex that costs as much as my grocery bill for a year, it’s not about knowing the time. That person feels they DESERVE that watch. That’s a scary thought.

People get their wants and needs all scrambled up.

I’ve always thought that when God made an ugly head, He covered it with a lot of hair! Edward’s head must be something awful....

"At first, the haircuts were free. "

Isn't that a violation of Congressional ethics? I thought there was a value limit on what they could accept for free.

True, but if edwards can afford a $400.00 haircut every few weeks then if that what he wants find with me. However, I still think it's kooky, hypocritical, and mildly insane which tells me his character isn't up to snuff to be President of the United States. It's much more appropriate for an elitist limosine liberal who I only hope never has the opportunity to influence my life.
