National Mall Cleared For Fear of Tornados
WASHINGTON — U.S. Park Police evacuated thousands of people from the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday afternoon, as severe weather interrupted July Fourth festivities.
Authorities used loudspeakers to ask Independence Day revelers to clear off the lawn and head to safer locations, including museums lining the National Mall, until further notice.
The National Weather Service has placed all of Maryland under a tornado watch until 10 p.m. ET. That means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. A tornado warning was also issued for an area of Montgomery County, Md., a suburb of the city, and funnel clouds had been spotted in the county. A tornado was also reportedly spotted in Columbia, Md., part of the Metro D.C. area.

Smuggle a bottle of wine? ROFL! There was a cooler of beer in the truck. :-)
The wind was wicked and I’m sure that played a major part in the fact the fireworks did not last as long as normal

I’m just southeast of Columbia. That first storm didn’t give us so much as a drop of rain, but 3 miles north of here it was a doozy.
About an hour after that a second storm hit us here.

Yeap they go celebrate their freedom by going through 40 checkpoints. sigh. Glad I had the pleasure pre-9/11. Yep every 4th of July I celebrate all the freedoms taken from us in the name of safety and security. I feel real safe now except from tornados and being shot at by some hoodlum in the Bastion of Liberty.

I live far out in the country, in a place that’s desert, so I can see pretty much 15-20 miles in any direction. There are 3 or 4 minor towns within eyeshot at night. It’s amazing and fantastic to see all the civil disobedience going off outside. All of it is perfectly harmless, there’s no danger of cataclysmic inferno. It’s awesome.

Yes, we had fun, but it was obvious the weather played a large part in the duration of the show.

Glad to hear it wasn't too bad in DC yesterday.
*************************************************
BTW Lainie (and all), did you see this part of the WP column you
linked in your post? I sure found it interesting.
The liberals really don't get it do they -- I wonder what it's going to take for them to realize that it doesn't matter what they say, or believe about the WOT, the enemy sees us all the same... INFIDELS! What is also interesting is that Ahmadinejad's Rep mentioned that Oliver Stone was part of the 'opposition' here -- exactly what we've been saying all along -- the Left and the Anti-War crowd really is acting treasonous.
[The following was snipped from the column linked above -- "The Reliable Source" @ The Washington Post]
FOREIGN AFFAIRS
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has turned down liberal provocateur director Oliver Stone's proposal to make a documentary about him because the Oscar winner is part of the "Great Satan" cultural establishment. The prez's rep told a state-affiliated news agency it's understood that Stone is "part of the opposition in the U.S." -- but still, he's American and all, ergo Team Great Satan. Stone, in a statement, said, "I have been called a lot of things, but never a great Satan." Then, just to show no hard feelings: "I wish the Iranian people well, and only hope their experience with an inept, rigid ideologue president goes better than ours."

Yes. The whole back & forth was posted at Drudge Report last week. If you go there & put in a search for Stone, the stories will come up.
Ahmadinejad's spokesperson: "We believe American cinema is void of real art and culture and largely used as a mouthpiece," he added.

At first sight of headline, I thought it said: "D.C. National Mall Evacuated
Tancredo Warning...", not "D.C. National Mall Evacuated
Tornado Warning County of Fairfax, Virginia...."
And, the other: "National Mall Cleared For Fear of Tancredo" not Tornados
Silly me!
