National Mall Cleared For Fear of Tornados
WASHINGTON — U.S. Park Police evacuated thousands of people from the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday afternoon, as severe weather interrupted July Fourth festivities.
Authorities used loudspeakers to ask Independence Day revelers to clear off the lawn and head to safer locations, including museums lining the National Mall, until further notice.
The National Weather Service has placed all of Maryland under a tornado watch until 10 p.m. ET. That means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. A tornado warning was also issued for an area of Montgomery County, Md., a suburb of the city, and funnel clouds had been spotted in the county. A tornado was also reportedly spotted in Columbia, Md., part of the Metro D.C. area.

That’s why we won’t go all the way over to the Island. There are places on the causeway where we can turn around and avoid the traffic!
I started watching until Danza came out...left for a minute, but back now. Yolanda Adams singing now. Here’s a thread that popped up: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1860998/posts
Oh my - the horrors, having to eat out.........LOL!
Glad all is cool with you and your gang. These kinds of storms spook me. A funnel cloud went over Chincoteague last Thursday, thankfully it never touched down.
we cooked it all inside b/c of the storm.
don’t these storms know better than to
time the worst of it at gilling time? ;)
we usually see the fireworks at the h.s. too.
taking a pass this yr b/c it’s so darned wet
and humid out there. ugh! :(
got it - yes it was him! (Yamin) I was impressed
we were watching Channel 8 pretty closely, knowing that the kids had plans, so we were up to the minute on where the storm was and when. we had hail and Tstorms but it passed pretty quickly. xsteen and her friends were dead set on going down for the national fireworks considering they had never been. her one friend is from Ireland, so one wouldn’t expect her to have been, but the others are natives here and haven’t seen them. Hey, we went when we were first married and had no kids, and being in that sea of humanity holds ZERO appeal for me now. it was gross even then!
They will probably make Montgomery Co a Tornado sanctuary county.
we had been going to Army Navy CC to watch the fireworks the past few years, but the kids are wanting to be with their friends and so that has them going different directions this year.
Unfortunately, PBS here in CA won’t show it until 8 PDT. Glad it’s good, though!
I can understand that with the kids.......but I’m with you, I do not like crowds. If I could finagle a way out of going back ut this evening, I would.......but I have already been overridden on my desire to stay home.
well get ready - right now they have Little Richard on. LOL
Hopefully the tornado will destroy the entire city, as long as no bad person dies.
mr patton had an itchin’ for steak and irish nachos
so i just sliced the steaks and sauteed them up like
korean bulgoki. his only complaint was that i didn’t
drown the potatos in olive oil. lol!
i could have used the Foreman grill for the chicken, but not the t-bones, and i wanted the WHOLE meal i had planned, not just bits and pieces of it. so we will have it tomorrow. though there are people consuming the dessert even as i speak....
Oh well - daddy rules and so we’re going..........
Had he not interupted her reading she would have never noticed.........
I know I will enjoy them, once I get over the snit of having to go back out at this ridiculous houre of the evening.
Later gators.
tell them no dessert tomorrow with the yummilicious dinner ;)
hey gabz, smuggle a bottle of wine, it’ll make
the evening oh so much happier for ya ;)
This picture is fab though. Love it.
There's no way to know if the AP doctored it.
I watched Little Richard, and opined that he has a lot more talent than most rap singers.
