Former President Bill Clinton criticized President Bush on Tuesday for commuting the prison sentence of I. Lewis Libby Jr. and tried to draw a distinction from his own controversial pardons.
In Iowa to promote the presidential candidacy of his wife, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, Mr. Clinton was asked by a radio host, David Yepsen, You had some controversial pardons during your presidency; whats your reaction to what President Bush did?
Yeah, but I think the facts were different, Mr. Clinton said. I think there are guidelines for what happens when somebody is convicted. Youve got to understand, this is consistent with their philosophy; they believe that they should be able to do what they want to do, and that the law is a minor obstacle.
Its wrong to out that C.I.A. agent and wrong to try to cover it up, Mr. Clinton added. And no one was ever fired from the White House for doing it.
Mr. Clinton pardoned 140 people in the final hours of his presidency, including Marc Rich, the fugitive broker who had been charged with evading tens of millions of dollars in taxes, and who was the former husband of a top donor to Democrats and Mrs. Clintons first Senate campaign.
Rather than tread lightly on the Libby commutation, the Clintons have chosen to confront it; Clinton advisers said there was no real alternative, because the news media would bring up the Rich pardon anyway.
Still, the Clintons have not scheduled a news conference during their visit, where they might face tough questioning, nor have they permitted reporters to attend private events, some including as many as 300 people, where people ask Mrs. Clinton questions. All of their public events have been rallies where the two of them speak.

Someone should ask Clinton if he would like Bush to pardon him so he can practice law again.
Notice how the Stone Age Press doesn’t get the hypocrisy of this??
Pray for W and Our Troops
Compared to how many for Bush? One? Just Libby? I don’t know why Bush didn’t pardon that border guard at the same time. Pee’s me off.
Uhhhh, Bill you just described yourself and Hillary. Hell, you just described all your friends and the crooks in your administration. "The law is a minor obstacle". Hoo boy, he's got one hell of a nerve!
You’ve got to be kidding me.
You should, because the Republicans didn't impeach Clinton over Lewinsky. Only leftist moonbats think that. Clinton impeached himself by lying about it. He would never have been impeached had he just told the truth.
Bill Clinton is the only POTUS who had reason to pardon himself!
A Tom Cruise scientology treatment/ritual? I never heard of that, any links to the details/reports of what this consisted of? Is Tom Cruise the scientology High Priest(ess) of the cult?
No wonder the guy is an out of control raving lunatic. He's eaten from scientologies' "toss your favorite pills in here" communion bowl a few times too many. If he's the high scientology priest, he probably gobbles down the remaining pills after the scientology "communion".
What is with these DemonRAT ex-Presidents? Once they get out of office, their brains shrivel up like peanuts. It must be the drugs or too much sex and not enough sleep.
“...the facts were different...”
as in fellatio is not sex...
For the love of god, White House lurkers, will you please let W. know this?
again, I apologize for butting in, but I had to post my 2 cents.
He may get away with it in this life... But unless he does a 180, he won’t be getting away with it in the next!
Clinton is a boob!
He’s a lying bastard.
If one journalist would call this scumbag out for hypocrisy.
Oh, that's Rich!
One would think that even a scoundrel like Clinton would have enough sense to shut up after his sorry record of pardoning felons and assorted fellow scoundrels. One would be wrong.
U so funny.
...and what of those FALN terrorist???????
That fellow sure has brass ones (and so does his wife).
