With the White House, the leaders of both political parties, and the media all solidly behind the comprehensive immigration reform bill, how could it be stopped in the Senate, as it was last week? The people stopped it. That is what democracy is all about.
When members of Congress began to be deluged with angry letters, phone calls, and e-mails from their constituents, they knew the game was over and that their careers could be over if they didnt pay attention to what the voters were saying.
This bill was an insult to peoples intelligence from start to finish, and the elites are continuing to insult peoples intelligence after being defeated.
Fraudulent arguments were followed by fraudulent procedures to rush this bill through the Senate without committee hearings, with restrictions on debate, and with the specifics of this huge bill being sprung on the Senate at the 11th hour, so that senators would be voting on something they barely had time to read.
Among the fraudulent arguments was that illegal immigrants were taking jobs that Americans wont do. What that really meant was that they were taking low wages that Americans wouldnt take.
Another fraudulent argument was that We cant find and deport 12 million people.
A much bigger problem than these 12 million people are the tens of millions of additional immigrants who are virtually certain to come in, legally or illegally, if amnesty is extended.
After all, there were only 3 million illegal immigrants the last time an amnesty bill was passed, back in 1986. Thats how we got to 12 million.

At least they’ll help bump the threads.
That’s all they are good for : )
I probably screwed up by hitting him with too many indisputable facts all at one time.
Yeah, right! What happened to all our state Senates having two Senators from each county???
“I probably screwed up by hitting him with too many indisputable facts all at one time.”
Always dangerous!!
Information overload........
Homerun is correct!
Like the article, I was talking about our federal government. Each state has reverted to whatever type of government they want to be. Michigan is a state, Virginia is a commonwealth, and The District of Columbia is a fiefdom.
Actually no! It's a Federal Colony just like the Lake Tahoe Basin!!!
The occupants of the White House and the Capitol are frauds. They should be voted out and replaced.
And then a lot of people with chilly spines fled to Ross Perot which gave us Bill Clinton.
Dubya has stood up to the globalists on global warming, 2A, the WOT, and, especially, thank God, the courts. And never once did he fail to say in any election that guest workers were something he supported to address the problem with dealing with those who ignore our borders.
Now, I'm very glad that bill was killed but for the paranoid among us it was designed to address a problem Bush didn't create, and who has probably made things better.
Have we really forgotten how Slick pushed through citizenship for dubious immigrants to make them eligible to vote in certain elections?
And those 12-20 million illegals are still here.
No. He didn't. To the contrary, see here and here
As late as 2004, here is what he was saying:
"Against a backdrop of Customs and Border Protection officers and a gleaming law enforcement helicopter, Bush threatened to veto any plan that offered "amnesty" to undocumented immigrants.
"We're going to secure the border by catching those who enter illegally and hardening the border to prevent illegal crossings," he said. "We're going to strengthen enforcement of our immigration laws within our country. And together with Congress, we're going to create a temporary-worker program that will take pressure off the border, bring workers from out of the shadows and reject amnesty."
He added, "Rewarding those who have broken the law would encourage others to break the law and keep pressure on our border."
Bush also stressed the need for greater workplace enforcement, which the business community staunchly opposes.
"Listen, there's a lot of opinions on this proposal. I understand that. But people in this debate must recognize that we will not be able to effectively enforce our immigration laws until we create a temporary-worker program."

Maybe you weren’t clear on his stance. But others here were. I didn’t agree with him in on immigration in 1999, 2000, 2004, or now. It almost kept me from voting for him in 2000. But I’m glad I did.
“I was willing to take my chances with his chance on immigration just to keep the other jerks out of the White House. I still shudder when I think of how close we came to having Gore as president.”
Yup.
Now you say: Maybe you werent clear on his stance.
So, you acknowledge from my post that he railed on amnesty, said he would beef up enforcement of the border, be tough on businesses hiring illegals.... but you think that I wasn't clear?
Does not compute.
Never said I wasn’t clear.
Face the facts. President Bush either
a) did a 180 degree ideological change since the election or
b) was blatantly lying to the general public about his immigration stance.
While some may have been skeptical of him at the time, that does change the fact that the message he sent
was that he would be tough on immigration, the border, and enforcement.
He did NOT present anything to suggest the President Bush we see today.
I’m sorry you weren’t paying attention years ago and now seem to regret voting for him.
Give me the sourced quotes that demonstrate he was pro-amnesty pre-2000 or pre-2004, that he wanted to provide a “path to citizenship” for 12-20 million illegal aliens. I already gave you links to sourced quotes proving otherwise.
Put up or shut up (so to speak).
1988 Republican convention: When George Walker Bush introduced his running mate, Dan Quayle, he was pointing out his family and said, "that little brown skinned one over there is one of my grandkids." In other words, GWB has a Latino sister-in-law. It's only hard for someone who can't master the obvious where the Bush family stands on this issue.
