(West Hartford-WTNH) _ In a musical blend of praise and protest, 17-year old Eric Ritter of West Hartford voices his opinions about the Iraq War.
Opinions about the war and young Americans who have died inspired Ritter to put his thoughts to music. In his song "The Loss of Good Men" Ritter sings about a soldier's funeral, soldier's that are not much older than him.
"They think they are fighting for what we believe, but how can they fight for a cause that's not there," said Ritter. "People like to say we are fighting for freedom, fighting for liberty, but I mean, is that what we are really fighting for?"
Ritter believes that Iraq was a mistake, but believe that America can't back out now.
"Because I think it's unfair to leave Iraq in the state that it is in, it's unfair to the people of Iraq, but at the same time I think we need to get our agenda straight," said Ritter.
And when asked if he would serve in the military Ritter said, "I think it would be the hardest decision of my life and I think I would fight for the country because I would feel like I would be betraying the country otherwise, but at the same time I would do everything to find out if there is a true reason for me going to Iraq, if Iraqi's really needed me there then I would feel honored to go."
Ritter hopes his song sparks a dialogue about the war among other teenagers.
Oh, jeez
Unfortunately, a lot of people are fighting for this kid’s sorry anti-American ass.
I’d wager every nickel I have that this kid hasn’t read a single word of the koran.
Fair enough. It's a valid opinion.
Not to you, Puppage, but to this waste of DNA:
Sit down and stay out of my way, kid. People half my age and twice your worth are taking bullets so you can sit there and be emo.
Sometimes I wish the malls would start burning - then maybe, MAYBE, your generation would wake up. Until then, I have to put up with you.
if Iraqi's really needed me there
It's good to know there's no shortage of apostrophes. Too bad folks don't know how to use them.
I’m glad that he hasn’t. He seems to have fallen for the propaganda of the MSM easily enough. Imagine what the koran could do? He’d be better off talking to American soldiers, more or less his age, who have been there, seen the truth and believe in the truth of what they are doing.
Even if it's 2017, his candy-assed comrades will still find a way to say it's Bush's fault. But, liberal dogma demands that grudges fester like maggots in gangrenous wound. Kinda describes liberalism in general, don't it? LMAO :-)
Hey kid, you ever light a firecracker and watch the fuse burn and burn all the way to the end and the firecracker doesn`t explode? Then you carefully walk up to that firecracker to see what`s wrong? What do you think that feels like?
Now imagine a fuse linked to a couple sticks of dynamite that would blow your body to bits....The fuse burns and burns and reaches the end, but the dynamite doesn`t explode but only this time you are forced to put your face right up to that dynamite...That`s what you would feel like all the time if Al Gore was President. The only reason you don`t is because Bush is.
He should read up on Sgt. Akbar and realize that some within our ranks are unfit to serve.
He should realize that there is a war going on whether or not we wish to participate and it is a consumate evil that we fight.
Cowardice and the acceptance that millions are enslaved is no way to go through life.
Bet he wants to go to war in Darfur too.
I love 17 year olds. They think they are so brilliant. They know everything. Smarter than the troops.
He will either grow out of it or become a Democrat.
