LONG KNIVES OUT AFTER BORDER BILL ("It wasn't the people's will. And they were heard.")
NY POST ^ | July 2, 2007 | ROBERT D. NOVAK

Posted on 07/02/2007 3:24:25 AM PDT by Liz

I asked one of the few conservative Republican senators who stuck with President Bush on immigration to assess how Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell handled the issue. Asking not to be quoted by name, he replied: "If this were a war, Sen. McConnell should be relieved of command for dereliction of duty." Not only did the minority leader end up voting against an immigration bill that he said was better than the 2006 version that he supported, but he also abandoned his post, keeping off the floor during final stages of Senate debate.

..............the failure is with a leaderless, RINO infested GOP Senate contingent that has lost track of its constituency. You've put yourselves above those who voted you into office........

Amen

I have been pondering this issue since I heard Savage posit a barrel of oil for each illegal per month or some such time frame.

I don't know about the taxing of sending money south. Seems like many legals do this too.

Would like to hear from others who may have some suggestions.

Thanx!

"In such an atmosphere, these lachrymose lawmakers for several months have faced an increasingly hysterical onslaught from constituents demanding the death of the "amnesty" for immigrants that they hear vilified daily on talk radio."

Let's fix that sentence....

In such an atmosphere, these spineless, money-hungry, sellout-to-illegal-labor lawmakers for several months have faced an increasingly hostile and angry onslaught from Americans demanding that the law be enforced and that foreign lawbreakers not be given preferences and special treatement after these Americans heard the truth of the details of this bill on talk radio, the only source of info keeping the public informed.

I don't know about the taxing of sending money south. Seems like many legals do this too........... That tax you propose on remittances sounds nice, but you’ll have to be very careful not to ensnare legitimate movement of capital out of the country for business purposes. Almost all of this is in the form of ‘’remittances’’ via bank wire. By SAJ

The problem is easily solved:

Provide a checkbox on remittance form for: (1) legal, (2) illegal, or, (3) business (accuracy assured under penalty of law).

A Real Immigration Reform Plan

The FEDS-AB Act of 2007

F – Fence
E – Enforce Current Laws
D – Deport Illegals
S – Secure ID and Sanction Violators
AB – Repeal the “Anchor Baby” provisions of the current law.

1. Secure the Borders (Fence)
a. Install 750 miles of fence within 180 days. Priority funding.
b. Hire, train, and deploy 5,000 new border agents ASAP, with extreme urgency. Priority funding.
c. Use military surveillance hardware/personnel to monitor fenced areas and unfenced gaps. Priority funding.

2. Deport Illegal Aliens (Enforce and Deport)
a. Priority 1 - Any illegal alien who has committed a non-violent crime and is currently incarcerated is to be immediately deported and permanently banned from entry into the US.
b. Priority 2 – Any illegal alien who is arrested/detained/discovered during the course of normal police activities is to be finger-printed, deported and permanently banned from entry into the US.
c. Priority 3 – Any illegal alien who is discovered through active ICE investigation processes is to be finger-printed, deported and permanently banned from entry into the US.

Note – This is not a “hunt them all down” initiative. This means that we enforce the existing laws and deport illegals when they are found.

3. Positive Identification/Punish Employers of Illegal Aliens (Secure and Sanction)
a. Institute a National Visa Database (NVD). Data entered by ICE, accessed via web by all potential employers.
b. Require all persons entering the US for the purpose of working to submit to fingerprinting and photograph. This person is issued a uniquely numbered ID card issued from the NVD with photograph.
c. Require ALL employers to provide proof of legal status for all employees. $100,000 fine per illegal alien employed.

4. End the “Anchor Baby” Law (AB)
a. Repeal the law extending citizenship to anyone born on U.S. soil.
b. Grant citizenship only to those born to American citizens and to those who have
i. Applied for U.S. citizenship AND
ii. been in the U.S. more than 1 year

Bob Novak is clueless on this issue, as is virtually every pundit inside the Beltway. It’s amazing how sheltered they are and blame this on “xenophobia” of Americans stirred up by talk radio. Obviously, Bob doesn’t get out much and talk to real Americans who have been angry about the lack of border control for many years and angry about runaway illegal immigration. Is that so hard to understand? Talk radio only reflected the dismay that was already there among the VAST majority of the public. Novak should buy a clue.

Looks good. I think in one day, 3-4 freepers could knock out a bill that 2/3rds of the country or more would support.

Novak is either lying or the most gulla-BULL hack in D.C. No "conservative Republican" who pushed this bill is a conservative, and certainly doesn't deserve to be called one.

Xenophobia is an fear or contempt of foreigners or strangers.

How about CONTEMPT for BREAKING THE LAW???!!! Some of these dumb*sses will NEVER get it!

If the LEGAL citizens are expected to obey the law why shouldn't we be p*ssed when they ignore ILLEGALS who not only invade this country but EXPECT to be rewarded for it?!!!

The legal Hispanics that I know were furious with Senators giving away what they had struggled to achieve.

Victor Davis Hanson:

But at least the Patriot Act passed both houses of Congress with wide public support. In contrast, there are a variety of other assaults on personal freedoms, due process, and the sanctity of the law that leftwing moralists not only ignore, but often seem to endorse—as if the liberal ends should justify illiberal means.

First, take illegal immigration. Not only have we neglected to enforce federal immigration statutes, but also local communities, due to pressures from Hispanic lobbyists and tacit approval from employers, have passed local codes barring arrests of suspected illegal aliens.

Tens of thousands of regional and local government officials, along with law enforcements, have taken the law into their own hands by simply deciding not to enforce it.

Both employers and aliens—the former for profit, the latter with the expectation of ethnic solidarity and support—have simply flaunted the law with impunity. We don’t talk about massive fraud in our Social Security system due to false names and numbers used by illegal aliens, but only in pragmatic terms of whether such flagrant disregard ultimately puts more into the system than it takes out.

The result is one of the most grievous examples of civil disobedience in our nation’s history—with 12 million de facto exempt from the law. In fact, we haven’t seen state and local government defy federal laws in such blatant fashion since the Jim Crow days when the states of the Old Confederacy were openly insurrectionist.
