Art Bell announces retirement

Posted on 07/02/2007 2:21:54 AM PDT by djf

Early tonight on Coast to Coast, Art announced he is retiring. Presumably to spend more time with his wife and new daughter.

While there is the standard mundane crew who break out the tin foil hat jokes (they don't even break out the tin foil, just the jokes), I have been listening to Art for many years and feel that some kind of outlet for the type of material and people he interviews is needed. It only takes one of the tens of thousands of sighting of UFO's to be a REAL UFO to change the world. So to be fair we need to wish him well. His place in broadcasting history is secured. I hope he maintains some influence in C2C.

We know what we know. But we don't know what we don't know!

Art has reported a UFO, that is, he doesn't know what it was and it was flying in the air. The world didn't change even though it was a real UFO. Also, he seems finally to have drunk the Roswell kool-aid.

I am pretty sure that his son was from his own first marriage. I have been puzzling over why he seems to act as if Asia is his first and only child. Also how he never mentions his son at all. He is very good at “moving on” and returning and making surprise announcements. He was good back when he did political topics. One day, shortly after the Oklahoma bombing I think, he just dropped politics like a hot potato and went to the UFO/psychic format.

just doesn’t have the same spark

Yes, he seems tired of the same story time and time again, but he pays attention and stays in the conversation. Noory fades out and uses his list of questions to keep the interview going sometimes. Still, guests are often highly interesting when they have their own ideas to explain and Noory will usually let that happen.

George Noori is the genius but Art still rakes it in

Noory is a genious?

Hardly IMO. Ian Punett is a much better interviewer.

Art is still the best at doing the kind of interview that frequently needs a bit of the "suspension of disbelief" in order to continue.

George is, franky too credulous with the subjects at hand to really do a good job with it.

I've read and heard a lot of things said about Art being a moonbat and worse, but he's much more the skeptic than many give him credit for, but he doesn't throw whatever skepticism he might have in the person's face that he's interviewing because he knows that that will kill the show.

I wish he'd not bought into the entire global warming thing so deeply though, as it has adversely affected his ability to do the job when he has people on who talk about it. On that subject I think Noory is a bit better because he's more skeptical about mankind's ability to influence the planet.

George Noori has done a great job taking over and reorganizing Coast to Coast. I like his radio voice. I like Ian Punnet even better

Yes, Noori is too much of a sucker for flaky interviewees and callers, but I like his style

Good luck Art. You have a baby girl and a young hot Asian wife.

I understand she is younger than his own daughter.

It’s interesting to listen to a few of the real nuts - the guy from Infowars that thinks the Illuminati are running the world, and the guy who thinks President George W. Bush is a shape-shifting reptile - and they have subterranean bases in strategic global locations.

Absolutely the ONLY person ever to be on C2C in all my years of insomnia worth hearing. Unfortunately, I think she's the last person they would offer a microphone to since C2C has become another arm of the Democrat nutroots. Any more, it's way too much tinfoil politics and not enough sci-fi crap that a lot of times drones me to sleep.

I have respect for George Nory and Art Bell as broadcasters, but that’s about all. Personal views aside, it strikes me as odd that you can continue to give air to callers and guests with the weeeeeirdest of opinions or ideas or testimonies, and still treat them all with seriousness and act as if you are awed by their story.

That's Noory, all right. Like others here, I fall asleep to the show, but sometimes wake to some very strange callers. When he interviews Alex Jones, I draw the line and turn it off.

There are two other valid questions. One, what will the effect of the change be on the planet, and two what can we do to mitigate those effects if they are to be negative. The later question is independent of human causation.

I don’t understand,. I thought doing the show only on weekends was like retirement. So what is Art going to do sit around all day and fawn over his wife and daughter 24/7. Wonder how long that will last?

Uh no. I am happily married thanks, to someone actually born in my generation.

I just find older men, like 63 years old, hitting on 20 year olds, slightly pathetic. Fact is most men who stoop to this, generally have money, and are well off, and are too stupid, obsessed or blinded to realize they are being taken for their money. Many times these relationships end in disaster for the old fool.

I knew an old guy that did something very similar, and he got taken for almost everything. His youngster wife is no where to be seen. He cries a lot now.

We actually tried to warn him. LOL!

Any other questions?
