“Travel Advice
Indonesia”
“This Advice is current for Sunday, 08 July 2007.”
SNIPPET: “This advice has been reviewed and reissued. It contains new information under the Summary and Safety and Security: Terrorism (terrorist attacks could take place at any time and could be imminent). The overall level of the advice has not changed.
Summary
We advise you to reconsider your need to travel to Indonesia, including Bali, at this time due to the very high threat of terrorist attack. We continue to receive reports indicating that terrorists are planning attacks against Western interests against a range of targets, including places frequented by foreigners. If you are in Indonesia, including Bali, and are concerned for your safety you should consider departing. If you do decide to travel to Indonesia, including Bali, you should exercise extreme caution.
There have been recent arrests of high level terrorist operatives in Indonesia, but we assess terrorists are continuing active planning of attacks. These attacks could take place at any time and could be imminent. Australians should consider this information carefully when considering travel to Indonesia. Particular care should be taken at this time to avoid known terrorist targets (see Terrorism section below).
In December 2005, Indonesian authorities warned publicly that terrorists in Indonesia may be planning to kidnap foreigners.
Terrorist attacks against Westerners in Bali and Jakarta indicate that these areas are a priority target for terrorists in Indonesia. Suicide attacks against locations frequented by foreigners in Bali and Jakarta have killed and injured many people. Locations that might be targets include Jakarta, Bali and Batam. However terrorist attacks could occur at any time, anywhere in Indonesia against a wide range of possible targets, in particular places frequented by foreigners.
Demonstrations outside the Australian Embassy in Jakarta could impede access and pose a safety risk to visitors. Australians should avoid all protests and demonstrations as they can turn violent. Australians should exercise a high level of vigilance and personal security awareness at this time. You should continue to telephone ahead for an appointment before going to the Embassy.
We strongly advise you not travel to Maluku (particularly Ambon) and Central Sulawesi due to the unstable security situation and risk of terrorist attack. Recent credible reports indicate that terrorists may be in the advance stages of planning attacks in Sulawesi. You should avoid all government buildings and infrastructure.
We advise you to read carefully the sections below on travel to other parts of Sulawesi, Aceh, Papua, Kalimantan, and West Timor where additional security risks exist.
In the past year, there have been human deaths of avian influenza in Indonesia. See the Health Issues section below for advice to Australians travelling to or resident in Indonesia.
On 22 March 2007 the Indonesian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a media release outlining the results of an operational performance assessment on Indonesian commercial airlines. The DGCA announced some changes to its original assessments on 26 June 2007 - see our separate travel bulletin Indonesia - Airline Operational Performance Standards. Australians should carefully consider the information contained in the bulletin and check with their travel agent when making travel plans for Indonesia
Because of the serious terrorist threat we strongly recommend that you register your travel and contact details with us so we can contact you in an emergency.”

Iran says Israel planning attack on neighboring Arab states
Islamic Republics chief of staff says suicidal plan formulated by Zionists and American neoconservatives will be implemented next summer to justify extension of US military presence in Iraq; adds: US national interests victimized for Zionist devils
Dudi Cohen (excerpt)
Published: 03.31.07, 20:46 / Israel News
Iranian Chief of Staff Gen. Hassan Fayrouz Abadi warned leaders of Arab countries that Israel is planning to launch a war this summer, the Fars news agency reported on Saturday. “Zionists and the Quds (referring to Jerusalem) occupying regime intend to exercise a suicidal plan next summer, and this suicidal plan of the Zionists and American neoconservatives, the implementation of which would start from the occupied Palestinian lands, will not serve the interests of anyone in the world,” the general was quoted by Fars as saying.
“Firstly, I warn the dear leaders and Muslim brothers in the neighboring countries of the occupied territories that this suicidal attack of the Zionists is threatening them,” he said.
According to the report, the Iranian military official further stated that the plan intends to prevent the withdrawal of the US troops from Iraq and the region and that it will pose a danger primarily to Lebanon, Syria, Egypt and Jordan and then Saudi Arabia and all other countries in the region. . . .

“Al-Qaeda-linked militants in Pakistan mosque: security officials”
07-08-2007, 03h15
ISLAMABAD (AFP)
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Islamic militants from a group linked to Al-Qaeda and to the murder of the journalist Daniel Pearl are believed to be leading hold-outs at a Pakistani mosque, security officials said Sunday.
At least two commanders from the banned group Harkatul-Jihad-e-Islami, whose name means Movement of Islamic Holy War, are inside the besieged Red Mosque in Islamabad, the officials said on condition of anonymity.
“We believe there are militants from Harkatul-Jihad-e-Islami, which was involved in the Pearl murder. Based on intelligence we suspect that two commanders from the group are in there,” one senior official told AFP.
“They have taken control and they are putting up fierce resistance.”
The information was based on “intercepts” and other intelligence, the officials said, without naming the men.
But the militants are thought to be giving orders to the hundreds of radical students in the mosque, they said. The government says women and children are being held as human shields, which the mosque’s clerics deny.
“Our forces are holding back as long as it is possible to avoid the deaths of women and children,” the security official said.
Harkatul-Jihad-e-Islami, which was formed in the 1980s, was the main Pakistani Islamic militant group that provided shelter for Al-Qaeda militants who fled Afghanistan after the fall of the Taliban.”

In a stark warning for the future, Dame Eliza added: “It remains a very real possibility that they may, sometime, somewhere attempt a chemical biological, radiological or even nuclear attack”.”
