Travel Warning: Afghanistan
U.S. Embassy Kabul released the following Warden Message on July 29:
The U.S. Embassy wishes to inform American citizens in Afghanistan that it has received information regarding a possible threat against Kabul University involving an improvised explosive device. Although the credibility of this reported threat has not yet been determined, employees of the U.S. Embassy are deferring any visits to Kabul University for the near term.
The Embassy reminds Americans that they should restrict their own travel in Kabul to essential business only and to consider the current threat environment when planning necessary travel around the city.
The Embassy urges Americans to practice good security measures:
* be aware of your surroundings;
* vary your times and routes of travel;
* avoid traveling after dark;
* do not travel alone
* avoid crowded areas and demonstrations;
* avoid Afghan and international government buildings and compounds;
* do not approach any international or local military or government convoys.
Americans in Afghanistan are urged to monitor the local news and maintain contact with the U.S. Embassy in Kabul. As the Embassy continues to develop information on any potential security threats to U.S. citizens in Afghanistan, it will share them with the American community via the Warden System. We take this opportunity to remind the community of the continuing threats outlined in the current Travel Warning for Afghanistan and Worldwide Caution Public Announcement. The full text of each can be found at http://travel.state.gov . Updated information may also be obtained by contacting the American Embassy in Kabul at usconsulkabul@state.gov or by calling the Consular Section on 0700-20-1908.
The Department of State also shares information through its consular information program documents, available on the Internet at http://travel.state.gov . In addition to information on the Internet, U.S. travelers may obtain up-to-date information on security conditions by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the U.S. or outside the U.S. and Canada on a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444.

“Suspicious device in Orofino taken away by Spokane bomb squad”
Ray Marcham / Internet Content Editor, KXLY.com

OROFINO, IDAHO —
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The situation started on Saturday afternoon, according to Clearwater County Sheriff Alan Hengen. Clearwater County deputies and Orofino police officers responded to reports of shots being fired. When authorities arrived, they arrested a 30-year-old man for aggravated assault and burglary, but were also informed that the suspect with the gun had fled the scene.
A second person was arrested later in the day, and a search warrant was issued for the house on Highway 12 where officers believed the gun involved in the initial crime was located. When they went inside the house on Sunday morning, they found what they believed was a suspicious device. At than point, they called in the Spokane Bomb Squad.
The squad arrived in Orofino around 12:30 p.m., and went to work on the device. Around 2:30, they took the device away from the scene and hoped to detonate it. Crews are searching the house for any further suspicious devices.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Israel is looking into reports that Russia plans to sell 250 advanced long-range Sukhoi-30 fighter jets to Iran in an unprecedented billion-dollar deal.
