:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
US Steps Up Security Following Attack in Britain

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff made appearances on several television talk shows.

He told ABC's This Week program there is no indication of a linkage between the events in Britain and any specific attacks on the United States. "We do not have, at this point, specific, credible intelligence that there is an attack, a particular attack, focused on this country," he said.

But at the same time, speaking on CNN's Late Edition program, Chertoff said U.S. authorities are concerned about the threat of terrorism, especially in the coming months. "We have had a number of al-Qaida leaders quite publicly talking about how they want to carry out their threats against the West. So, given that and given the history that we have had over past summers, with attacks in Britain, I think we were clearly focused on this as a possibility," he said. Full story...

I wonder how many have infiltrated our troops . I have only heard of a couple jihadist who have joined our forces then killed troops . It’s a shame to think we not only trained them but also arm them ,then put them in with out troops .

Sorry about the last empty post. You will have to go to the site to see the drop the dollar has done today. Maybe someone is pulling out of the US dollar.

Police carried out a controlled explosion on a blue Vauxhall car yesterday at Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley, near Glasgow, where Dr Abdulla worked and where he is being treated for his injuries. It was the second such detonation at the hospital, following a white BMW on Sunday. Strathclyde Police said the two vehicles were “connected” with the airport attack.

Whole article worth reading:

http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/crime/article2730423.ece

other snips:

Also under arrest was Bilal Talal Abdul Samad Abdulla, an Iraqi from Baghdad who arrived in the UK in April 2006. He is said to have been one of the two men in the Cherokee Jeep in the Glasgow airport attack, and is suffering from third-degree burns.

His companion, under arrest, is also from Iraq, while two other men, aged 25 and 28, arrested in Paisley yesterday, were said to be doctors from Saudi Arabia.

...

Dr Abdulla, who had qualified in Baghdad in 2004, a year after the US-led invasion, has been in Britain since August 2006. He is said to have lived in Jordan before arriving in the UK.

...

Detectives believe that a Mercedes involved in the failed attacks in London came from Scotland. They have tracked part of the car’s route south last week using number-plate recognition technology mounted in cameras along the M6.

The raids and arrests across the country which followed are said to have resulted mainly from clues gathered from the two cars, including calls made to the mobile telephones.

Thanks for the info Karl. If people would put the same amount of effort into a real job as they put into their drug dealing ventures they would be doing quite well.

Does seem like an uncommon way to commit suicide. I’ve read that the majority of men commit suicide via a bullet to the head and women choose drug overdose.

My neighbor has been a trauma Doc for the past 20 years. He was here for dinner tonight. We discussed this case (he is FReeper lurker). He has serious doubts about this “suicide”.

Your post re-enforces my choice to live in the mountains, far away from big cities. My largest threat, thus far, has been the errant mountain lion on the deck. And that was easily handled with the “shoot, shovel and shut up” method.

That said........any attack on any American is an attack on all Americans.

Thanks for all your interesting and insightful/inciteful posts.

Thanks Joe. I find articles of that nature valuable as they hopefully remind people to be prepared to shelter in place.

Bomb squad inspect car at city mosque (Scotland)
July 03 2007

Armed police surrounded a mosque in Glasgow early this morning to deal with a suspect car. Onlookers talked of seeing at least 15 armed officers amongst dozens of police who had converged on the Masjid Noor mosque in Forth Street, Pollokshields at around 1.30am.

Police last night confirmed that Explosive Ordnance Disposal had been called and that they would examine the vehicle. "We're checking out the vehicle in the car park of the mosque," said a spokesman. "This is just a precautionary measure, there is nothing to say at this stage that there are any dangerous materials."

Afra Sehab, an eyewitness, said he believed there was still a congregation being kept inside the mosque.

Australia ‘a home for radical Islam’
Tuesday, 3 July, 2007

CANBERRA: Australia has a bigger portion of Muslim youths at risk of turning to radical Islam than any other Western nation, with up to 3,000 in “ideological sleeper cells” in Sydney alone, a government-backed study said yesterday.

Between 2,000 and 3,000 youths, or about 1% of Sydney’s 200,000-strong Muslim population, had already been targeted by radical Islamic teachers, with some at risk of making the jump to militancy, the research said. “The radical teaching base here is relatively stronger than you might expect it to be in the UK, the Middle East or the US,” said study author Mustapha Kara-Ali. “The youth community here is vulnerable and could be acted upon for recruitment and further radicalisation.”

Australia has around 340,000 Muslims, or around 1.6% of the 21mn population. But the percentage of radicalised Muslim youths was bigger than the US or the UK, where the ideological pool was of similar size, but off a 1.6mn base, Kara-Ali said. Kara-Ali, a member of Prime Minister John Howard’s Muslim advisory board, said it was far harder for radicals to spread an extremist message in other countries, where moderate groups were well placed to resist their message. “The Muslim community is relatively new in Australia. Given that, there isn’t an established moderate Islamic order with deep roots in the community and the extremists are exploiting this,” he said.
