BRUSSELS, Belgium - One hundred journalists and other news media workers died on the job in the first six months of the year, putting 2007 on the path to becoming the deadliest year for the news business, the International News Safety Institute said Friday.

Iraq has been the most dangerous country for journalists in recent years, and the group said the 100-mark was reached with a death there Tuesday — the killing of Hamed Sarha, a 30-year veteran of the Iraqi national news agency by unidentified gunmen.

According to statistics compiled by the Brussels-based group, 83 journalists and 17 other media professionals died around the globe covering news stories between Jan. 1 and June 26, with 72 of them slain.

100 Journalists killed and not a Conservative among them.

Must be Bush’s fault.

I wonder what a thread would be like if a relative of a FReeper who happened to be a journalist was wounded or killed in a combat zone?

It’s a good start! Mussolini was right, the only thing journalists are good for is decorating lampposts.

Pray for W and Our Troops

You could always gather your own news.

Or, just make it up too (Dan Rather, anyone?) :0)

1) Regrets over their loss

2) Regrets over their unfortunate choice of "profession"

3) Observations that, since 911, "journalists" have been the most powerful and influential allies the terrorists have...

And, God forbid, should you become a casualty of war while getting the story, I hope FReepers will send their condolences and or best wishes for your recovery on the “FReeper Journalist Bikerman wounded in Baquaba” thread.

I think Somalia would be ROP too, making it 51 and a majority.

Remember the NYSlimes, which kept "panties on the head" alive and front-page over a month -- while the muzzies were beheading folks with dull knives.

I stand firmly behind my belief that the leftist media is Public Enemy #2 -- right behind radical Islam. (...and I don't have to tell you what "profession" makes up the media...)

Would you suspend the first amendment?

I want abuses dealt with. Not swept under the rug.

My Lai happened on my watch and I’m proud of the soldiers who came forward and I proud of LTG Peers who conducted a thorough investigation.

MG Taguba can hold his head high too, for living up to a high standard. We’re Americans and no one should condone what took place at AG or My Lai.

The curious fact is that although conservative, patriotic Americans have the best reasons to dislike journalists, it is clearly Muslims who are killing most of them. One look at the countries where they are killed makes that perfectly clear.

Most of them who are working in those countries (not all, but most) are working on behalf of the Muslims, including quite a few Muslim stringers.

What this shows, of course, is that the Vast Right Wing in America isn’t into killing, but Muslims are. Muslims like killing so much, they kill their would-be friends and allies as often as they kill their real enemies. The number of peaceniks they have captured and killed shows the same thing.

Muslims like to abuse women and kill unarmed people. It makes them feel less useless.

What would we do without our Brave Journalists who risk life and limb to bring us reports of the murder and mayhem caused by Bushco and our Troops out of control in Middle East and elsewhere?

SUPPORT OUR JOURNALISTS. BRING THEM HOME NOW!

okay, sarcasm off, return to your normal everyday activities
