In many ways, this family of five is like many others in West Michigan.
They go to church. They pay taxes. The oldest daughter does well in school and dreams of college.
But with Thursday's collapse of an immigration-reform bill in the U.S. Senate, the parents continue to fear a knock on the door that could split this family in two.
They broke immigration law a decade ago when they crossed the Mexican border and could be deported if found out. Their three daughters are citizens because they were born in America.
``All it would take is one phone call and you are gone,'' said the father, Ignacio, 45, who spoke in Spanish through an interpreter and asked that his real name not be revealed.
``I live very fearfully, watch everything I do, all out of fear of being deported.''
The bill defeated Thursday, which was backed by President Bush, would have offered a complex path to citizenship for many of the 12 million people who reside in the United States illegally.

Exactly what I was thinking! Criminals! Live in fear, I don’t have any sympathy. Bet the taxpayer paid for the babies.

Mad now?
Don’t look at this thread that was just posted.

“They broke immigration law a decade ago when they crossed the Mexican border and could be deported if found out.”
Why continue further with the story?
The solution to getting them out is simple—put a bounty on their butts and they will turn each other in to the authorities faster than you can say “jumping bean”.
Great Trebouchet(I think I spelled it right). Should fling more than one illegal at a time back over the border!
At this point I think Chertoff is more incompetent the Janet el Reño. Maybe the most incompetent cabinet official in U.S. history.
I never lived here in fear, why would do that???
I lived here a number of years and felt completely comfortable at peace, because I entered into this great country after 3-1/2 years of Immigration scrutiny in my home country!
The icing on the cake is I am a new LEGAL naturalized U.S. Citizen since April 4, 2007!!
There is NO reason why these mehico's coyotes could not do it the same way. No, they choose to take the law in their OWN hand and landed here as ILLEGAL aliens, can you spell them CRIMINALS!!!
TEN YEARS HERE AND STILL HASN’T LEARNED ENGLISH!!!!
This is the frickin problem. They don’t assimilate. They just want money. they think they are owed citizenship because they want a job.
EVERYONE WANTS A %$%$DAMN JOB!!! THAT IS NOT A VIRTUE!!!
All the mexicans in Mexico want a job too! They are no more virtuous than the illegals sneaking in to work here.
This whole thing makes me sick. Illegals are not victims. They create victims. They steal peoples’ identities. They have no concern if it causes those Americans problems that they have to clean up. they come here and kill people, and rape people, and get drunk and cause fatal car crashes, kill our police officers, and think they are owed all this crap.
Makes me sick. Fence First. Actively find and deport criminal illegals. Stop providing government funding for illegals currently here - schooling, any assistance, etc.
That reporter found them, why can’t ICE!
Deport the illegals and build the fence.

Excellent suggestion. Now we are getting somewhere on the solution. How about if the bounty was paid by the US in Pesos?.....oh, and besides the Pesos a case of refried beans for the second illegal butt? This thing has enormous possibilities, so thanks for bring it up.
Mahalo
Congratulations!!
It’s so sad that breaking our law has led to this, but they chose to take the risk. If they all leave together they won’t be separated.
He sure is living in fear when he’ll talk to a reporter through an interpreter. I would say the reporter is in violation for not reporting this illegal
Congrats, FRiend. I am a legal immigrant too - I know how much this means to you.
It was that way here in Texas too, until the last 10 or 15 years. They come here and never leave now. Everywhere I go there are people who can't speak English and they move around in groups so at least one person can speak English at doctors offices, etc.
They’re here illegally which meams they don’t pay taxes. They’re paid under the table which allows them to live on the dole.
