London faced a fresh terror alert tonight as police hunting the gang behind the nightclub bomb plot evacuated Hyde Park.
Fresh details emerged of how the gang - believed to be linked to al Qaeda - came within moments of causing carnage with a 'massive bomb' attack on a West End club.
Park Lane, on Hyde Park's eastern edge, is closed from Marble Arch to Hyde Park corner, with a 200-metre cordon around a suspicious vehicle in an underground car park. It is not known however if this vehicle also contains a bomb.

Kind of. Give him a little shove to see how far he’ll push.
can you read the arabic military patch on the left? Found near the texas/mex border reportedly.
Agree with you: I did note that there was no mention of a high order explosive being involved. A vapor bomb is definately dangerous, but generally less so than an IED composed of artillary shells or other High explosives. I wonder what they’re not telling us in the news reports.
I wont take that bet...
THREE now?
Can you find any reports on that? Looks like a terror cell went active in London.
I Would Check For Nuclear, Chemical, Biological Material In Car Bomb
******************************EXCERPT****************************
The streets surrounding the car bomb incident are eerily familiar to those who followed the Litvinenko saga last fall and this spring. But there are also parallels to the terrorist ring the UK recently rounded up as well:
The potentially devastating attempted car bomb attack today is a disturbing echo of the plans of master al Qaeda terrorist Dhiren Barot.
The diminutive fanatic from Kingsbury assembled a gang who plotted to kill thousands of people both in Britain and the United States.
One plan was to pack three cars with gas cylinders and explosives and detonate them in car parks beneath targets in London and New York.
Oh crap I forgot about that...
Ask the wife of the Dr. in NYC who blew up his entire house with gas...
Plenty explosive...
Sky news reported it a little while ago, but has later reported that Fleet Street had been reopened.
I assume it was a false alarm...
Plenty explosive...
Obviously gas which has been mixed with the air in an entire house is not the same as gas sealed in cylinders.
I have a silly question. How were the car bombs supposed to be detonated? Were they set on some sort of timer? If it was a cell phone then they could have set them off before the police got to it. If it was manually then the bombers got cold feet. Or was it just loaded with explosives to test the response?
If you heat up the gas cylinder with another source of fire, it will explode very violently.
The upper letters on the left patch say “Syrian Defence.” The wording along the bottom border is too fuzzy for me to read.
“Even when contained in cylinders, propane gas can build up pressure when exposed to extreme heat and can rupture the tank and explode.”

I suspect the WWII Japanese Kamikazes Pilots had something like that for a motto also!
I hope we have improved the devices....
Yes, a compressed gas cylinder that is heated will explode, but it will not be anywhere near as powerful as a high explosive because there is no oxidizer other than the surrounding air. If you look up gas cylinder explosions online you will see that they are actually quite frequent in countries where gas cylinders are often used for cooking. But most of the injuries seem to be due to either the ensuing fire or shrapnel from the cylinder. Where a larger explosion is mentioned it usually seems to be the case that the gas was escaping into an enclosed area before the explosion.
The specific cases mentioned at your link all seem to involve gas that leaked out into an enclosed area before the explosion. See #59.
