DUBYA'S END
BORDER BILL THE LAST BLOW
June 29, 2007 -- PRESIDENT Bush's disastrous second term has not been without its moments. Unfortunately for him, these moments have come primarily when members of his own party have risen up against him to defy his wishes. That's what happened yesterday. For the second time in four weeks, Republicans in the Senate put a stake through the heart of Bush's beloved but politically catastrophic immigration bill.
It's also what happened in the early months of the second term, when Bush chose to nominate his unqualified aide, Harriet Miers, to the Supreme Court - and finally backed down and had her withdraw her name after three weeks of lobbying and complaining.
(snip)
He would not and could not back down on immigration reform, an issue far too close to his heart. But after the Senate first rejected the bill at the end of May, Bush could have left it alone and accepted defeat. He could have seen reason, as he did in January 2004 when he first proposed a piece of legislation and was met with an uprising from his conservative base - whereupon he prudently dropped the subject because he was running for re-election and needed a united and enthusiastic Republican electorate behind him.
(snip)
And perhaps most interesting, Bush chose to believe it was more important to court potential future Republican voters - those illegals who would have gained a "path to citizenship" under the terms of the bill in 13 years' time - rather than listen to the concerns of present-day Republican voters.

Still adding nothing to the debate but nonsense, I see. I guess that’s a step up from your usual trade in lies.
Funny, but people will keep eating even if the cost of picking lettuce and apples goes up. And farmers will also have a strong inducement to automate.
You want to know where the fence is? Waiting for Bush to do his duty and build it as signed into law by him.
So go ahead, and make your next inane "where's the fence" post. You are only impressing yourself, which apparently doesn't take much.
So that means there still could be over 300 miles built with the funds allocated - or roughly the amount called for in the bill that was shot down.
Yet Bush has only built 11 miles.
So the lack of a fence has nothing to do with the failure of this bill.
You're so stupid, you post factoids that gut your own argument.
Not 300...100 maybe. Yep that’s enough for some Rinos we know.
That is unless you are happy with that wittle one he forgot to tell you about.
Your math is even worse than your logic.
The Congressional Budget Office estimates the fence will cost $3.2 million a mile, Congress voted to hand DHS just $1.2 billion in fiscal year 2007 for construction.
I'll round it to $3.33 million per mile. That means a billion dollars would build 300 miles.
Using your own numbers, I have shown there is enough money for over 300 miles of fence.
Bush has built 11.
You really don't seem to grasp just how big a fool you are making yourself out to be here.
Price of food doesn’t go up if you don’t have anybody to harvest the crops. Automation is a joke. Many of the crops cannot be harvested by machine and most farmers couldn’t ever recover the cost of the machine. Who you going to have run the machines even if they could afford them.
So bankrupt the farmers and lose the crops. Not an answer.
Pray for W and Our Troops
bttt
If you pay people enough, they will harvest the crops. If people aren't available, farmers will automate the way it has been done in other countries.
Farmers tried this argument before about being unable to harvest tomatoes without illegal labor. Lo and behold, they figured out how to automate.
OK, so that's about 180 miles, then. Why has Bush only built 11?
Liar.
You are the liar...you told us that we can get the whole 700 mile fence out of the Dems...Where’s the fence?
I didn't say that, liar.
“Do not misunderestimate W”
Let’s see: Appoints Colin Powell as Secy. of State, signs McCain-Feingold, nominates Harriet Miers for SCJ, tries to sell out country to immigration-scam, throws Donald Rumsfeld under the bus, appoints Gonzalez as AG (probably the most incompetent AG in history, has let mutts like Schumer, Reid & Pelosi crap all over him......yeah! I misunderestimated when I voted for him.
Yes you did..you said the fence is funded. You have no facts and you have no moral ground to stand on. Go away dirtboy. You sold us down the river.
puke!
