"Any one study on the origins of homosexuality or one line of thinking alone is not sufficient to indicate a biological etiology. However, taken together, the evidence is overwhelming that the homosexual phenotype is biological in origin (if expressed in vastly diverse ways among human populations)."

” there’s a dirt road leading into the field were those tents are located, but there’s no road coming out!.’

Now, that’s funny, I don’t care who you are.
A road that goes in but doesn’t come out.

“You put a mechanical stimulator on any healthy penis and no matter what the person claims their orientation to be they are going to become stiff and finish the deed.’

I agree. Therefore, penile stimulation is no indicator of sexual preference.

Yours is an extremely interesting post.

"They haven't yet got all the Queer Theory enthusiasts on board, who are laying down a 180-degree opposite line on sexuality."

I was just pondering that the other day.

On the one hand, you've got Team A saying that gender is a social construct, a fabrication; an artificial pattern of outward behavior and inner aptitudes, appetites and responses which forms a false consciousness from which we must free ourselves...to invent our lives... to create ourselves anew...free to be... (breathlessly) ... you and me!

But on the other hand, Team B says that if (regardless of his XY genotype and his testes-and-penis phenotype and his hundred million live sperm) some boy is absolutely convinced he's meant to have sex with other boys, then he's really deep-down gay and cannot be changed!

And if he's long felt that he's "really a girl inside," then he's got to be flouncy, bouncy, frilly and feminine, from his false eyelashes to his pink-painted toenails, because that, my friends, is his (excuse me, her) real inner gender and THAT cannot be changed!

So this confused young male gets a diagnosis of gender dysphoria, which means unhappiness about the sex he was born, and goes under the knife to cut his external genitalia down to size, plus drugs to make him a moody jeune fille in a fetching bustier, and by jiminy, he still has gender dysphoria (he's still unhappy about the sex he was born), plus in due time he can be even more miserable about the anti-phenotypical mess he's made of his poor maimed self.

Where do you think this bizzarro train will take us, culturally speaking?

Honestly, I'm sorry for kids these days.

” is it your choice to be aroused?”

I stopped reading there. If arousal is purely choice, what’s with pedophiles being convicted because they showed arousal under controlled exposure to child porn?

That should have read ...
Therefore, mechanical penile arousal is no indicator of sexual preference.

IOW, parade a naked chick before Robert Simmons, and you might not get any physiological reaction at all.

I believe they “tried” Exodus just to prove overcoming abnormal same sex feelings can’t be done. With that attitude, one will never change any behavior.
~ My mom says this was the same attitude in the 50’s and 60’s towards alcohol. You are born alcoholic and must live with “it”. When AA started in 1935 it was ridiculed and criticized by those with a pre-disposed condition of attraction to alcohol. Those who overcame were laughed at and told they wouldn't’t last. Some didn’t but as we see today, most do overcome. It took 40 years for AA to be somewhat accepted as truth. There is a whole generation who believes they must and should accept being gay as ‘normal’.

And while people have many many sorts of preferences that is entirely different than an orientation.

I mean... could someone possibly be romantically / emotionally hetero and sexually homo?

The idea of it all is ridiculous.

There is no such thing as an overriding “sexual orientation” which would drive someone to behave in so oppositionally to every norm of society. Why would S.O. cause a grown man to speak with a lisp or dress flamboyantly. It is all ludicrous.

I prefer to ride in big comfortable gas guzzling cars and catalytic converters and other environmental controls make me irritable. Does that mean that I am “anti-environmentally oriented” and therefor should be accommodated for it? Of course not.

“There is no such thing as an overriding “sexual orientation” which would drive someone to behave in so oppositionally to every norm of society.”

That’s a good point. During the decades when homosexuality was illegal and homos were despised, why would anyone choose to be ostracized and jailed? And for what?

If there’s no such thing as an overriding sexual orientation, what would it take for a hetero to go gay? Some gay porn? You couldn’t make me get stirred over some guy’s hairy ass, and it has nothing to do with just thinking it over.

They repent of their repentance.

Exactly that. They fell back into sin. Instead of asking God to forgive their failure and try to get back on the right road, they decide to claim it is something that can't be helped.

Alcoholics, over-eaters, drug addicts, and so forth. . .they have all attempted to use the same excuse as these guys. Doesn't hold water with God.

I’m laughing at all the FReepers who tried to sell me on this “ex-gay” crap.

You're laughing because these guys fell back into sin.

That says a lot about you.

Why this is virtually never talked about in the world at large, a world which obsessively airs all its other kinds of psychological dirty laundry, I will never understand.

It is not politically correct to acknowledge that homosexuality is a sickness.

“would it take for a hetero to go gay?” the question is nonsequitor because there is no “gay”? There are just people who happen to prefer sex with the same sex as they happen to be.

That doesn’t make them inherently a different sort of person anymore than someone who prefers to steal or lie rather than be honest is an inherently different kind of person.

All three are wrong. People can refrein from all three behaviours and will feel better about themselves in each case because they are functionin within there created purpose.

(Again there are only two sexual orientations... inies and outies... after that it’s all pretty much preference.)

“There are just people who happen to prefer sex with the same sex as they happen to be.’

Is there something different about people who change their sexual preference to same-sex? Or do we all have the potential? If we do, is it on a sliding scale, do you think?

G-d presents each of us with unique challenges and shortcomings that we must either work to overcome or surrender to.

So, God makes people gay? Slippery slope alert!

God allows people to be gay....He does not make them gay.

Homosexuality is a pre-disposition much the same as many other pre-disposed conditions such as alcohlics, sex adicts, etc., etc. The choice comes in whether or not to engage in the abnormal behaviors as a result of abnormal feelings of attraction. All feelings are rooted in behavior and all behavior can be changed with the desire to do so thus same sex feelings can be overcome. If you don’t want to change than so be it but don’t force the rest of society to accept said behavior as normal.

homosexual is a description of behaviours and activities, not of a state of being.

It's neither - it's a simple matter of taste. A person's taste in food is really not important - why is their taste in sex so important?

Eating and sex are both bodily functions. If someone really likes chocolate ice cream and really hates strawberry ice cream - is that choice in taste so over-poweringly important? Would we some up with a term to describe that person? Would we call it a "life style"?

Of course we wouldn't. Why is taste in sex so much more important in taste in food?

When you meet someone do you say, "Hi, my name is Mike and I like Chinese food."?

Saying, "Hi, my name is Mike and I am gay" is just as ludicrous to me.

I don't know why both homosexuals and fag-haters BOTH seem to think this matter of taste is so darn important.

When I meet someone I couldn't care less what kind of food they prefer - nor do I care what type of sex they prefer. Why would I? And why would anyone else?

Those who claim it IS important because of what the Bible says - remember the Bible mentions what food we should eat and not eat more than it mentions what kind of sex we should or shouldn't have.

Frankly, both the "gay" crowd and the "anti-gay" crowd are both guilty of making a mountain out of a molehill.

Unless I am planning on having sex with someone - why would I care what their taste in sex is? Unless I am planning on preparing a meal for someone - why would I care what their taste in food is?

And why is there such a difference between the tastes in two bodily functions?

(If your answer to that question is "the homosexuals indulge in 'unnatural' and dangerous sexual behaviors like oral and anal sex" - remember far more heterosexuals indulge in both of those behaviors than homosexuals. The sheer number of heterosexuals make that so. Also - some people eat things others would consider "unnatural and dangerous" - again, why would anyone else care?)
