Brownback Votes Against Senate Immigration Bill - U.S. Senator Sam Brownback today voted against the Senate immigration bill. "I voted against the Senate immigration bill because I am not convinced it would fix our broken immigration system and it would most likely repeat the mistakes of the 1986 reform," said Brownback. The immigration bill failed earlier today on a 46-53 procedural vote that required 60 votes for the bill to advance to a final vote.

During the actual vote this morning, Brownback voted “Yes” on cloture, then switched his vote to “No” after it got more than 41 votes.

I thought he witheld his vote (not voted "yes") and then voted "no" when it had been defeated. Not any discernable difference, but I like to know the truth.

Voted for it before voting against it! Has he been to MA recently to drink the Kerry water?

I believe he actually voted "Yes" at first, but perhaps a FReeper who watched the vote can verify that for sure?

I like that handle that someone up above came up with:
SENATOR SWITCHBACK
It kind of has a ring to it, doesn't it. I can see the bumper stickers now.

So he figured this out fifteen minutes after he cast his "AYE" vote, just seconds before voting ended????

I watched the live thread. They called a “yes” vote from Switchback early in the voting and then noted his change later. Going by real-time updates, I’d say he switched his vote to go with the flow...

Thank you. As I said, it did not make a difference if he held his vote or switched it. I simply wanted to be accurate.

In my mind, it does make a difference. Withholding his vote may simply be called a delayed reaction... changing his vote is pandering and there’s no way to spin it otherwise.

Brownback voted yes at the beginning of the rollcall today and then 11 minutes later - when it was clear that amnesty was going to fail - he changed his vote to no.
