Brownback Votes Against Senate Immigration Bill - U.S. Senator Sam Brownback today voted against the Senate immigration bill. "I voted against the Senate immigration bill because I am not convinced it would fix our broken immigration system and it would most likely repeat the mistakes of the 1986 reform," said Brownback. The immigration bill failed earlier today on a 46-53 procedural vote that required 60 votes for the bill to advance to a final vote.

This is the guy who voted for amnesty at first...then when the bill was going down, VERY late in the vote, he switched.

What a man of conviction. < \sarcasm>

"I voted against the Senate immigration bill because I am not convinced it would fix our broken immigration system an opportunist and it would most likely repeat the mistakes of the 1986 reform wanted to be on the winning side," said Brownback. He added, "I had another press release ready that would have said the exact opposite..."

Are you talking about the procedural vote earlier in the week or the previous bill? I wouldn’t use the earlier procedural vote as a guidepost as many who opposed the bill voted in that so they could get to the amendment vote today and kill it here.

Now is not the time to let up. we need to pressure our politicians to enforce the existing immigration laws including deporting illegal aliens, building the fence and prosecuting businesses who do business with illegal aliens. The link below is a ping list to pay attention for other questionable legislation being considered in Congress.

During the actual vote this morning, Brownback voted “Yes” on cloture, then switched his vote to “No” after it got more than 41 votes.

I would venture to say there were quite a few Senators who voted no to Cloture once it became apparrent the motion was going down. The only ones still on my “good” list are the ones who voted no two days ago.

Ouch.. caught with his credibility down around his knees..
Thanks for the update.. I missed what happened in the vote today other than it was killed.

Has Brownback said why he voted ‘yes’ initially today?

Senator Switchback should call it quits with the presidential run.

His yea then nay votes 11 minutes apart has shown him for the principle-free weasel he is.

He covered his bases. He voted for the bill before he voted against the bill.

I dub thee Senator Sam “Slimy” Brownback. Nice vote change there at the end when you thought nobody was looking.

Brownback's opponent in the next Kansas GOP primary already has his commercial. Show Brownback voting yes, and then voting no, and then show Brownback's pronouncement piously proclaiming that he voted no.

And ask Kansans if they want their Senator who lies to their faces like that on such a vital issue.

Brownback will never recover from this.

Yeah, ouch! Brownback would have been better not issuing any statement at all! HotAir has posted the actual c-span clip of him changing his vote.
