I see Norm Coleman was invested with some of that old time religion this go around. There must have been a good many Minnesota Republicans that asked him how “Senator Al Franken” sounded to his political ears.
There were obviously a large number of Senators that switched. I won't go through the list to see who they are. It's sort of good thet they are able to see how arrogant they were on Tuesday, although I wonder how they could be so S-T-U-P-I-D then.
Also, Bush said today that Congress needs to prove to the American people that they can get together. I think they proved it today. This cloture vote suggests that an actual vote on the bill would have defeated it. This way Democrats and RINOs could defeat the bill without having to say they voted against it.
Ultra-pathetic: Brownback's doomed-campaign website already has a press release out touting his "no" vote today, claiming he voted against it "because I am not convinced it would fix our broken immigration system and it would most likely repeat the mistakes of the 1986 reform."
No, Sen. Brownback, that's not why you voted no. You voted yes first because you supported the immigration reform bill and thought cloture was going to pass. When it was obvious that the bill wouldn't survive the cloture vote, you switched your vote to "no" because you know that the Republican Party base is heavily opposed to this bill.
Feel free to call Sen. Weasel's office and ask him if he thinks the American people are too dumb to understand that he actually voted for the bill before voting against it.... His office number is 202-224-6521....
LOL! *SMACKDOWN*
One suspects that Brownback is in the meat packers' pocket.
I recall when I first studied Senator Brownback's positions. All of them seemed to be solid conservative positions -- save one. He was an open borders/amnesty guy.
This is absolutely inexplicable, intellectually. Thus, it leads one to assume that Brownback has been bought and paid for by somebody.
And thus we turn the switch on Senator Sam Brownback's faintly glimmering Presidential hopes...
I’m not ready to forgive Norm so easily, his vote this time seems to have occurred after cloture had already failed. I hope you are right, but I am one Minnesota Republican who needs further convincing.
“Senator Al Franken”? please don’t say like that!
Do you believe in the tooth fairy as well? The switchers know full well that the supporters of the bill had 51 votes and that by voting yes on cloture, the bill would pass. They wanted to have it both ways. Once they saw that cloture was not going to be invoked, they got to the winning side. It is done all of the time.
Sounds good to me. I would also make an effort to gather reliable data on the number of illegal aliens enlisting state and local authorities in the effort. You can not make good public policy without reliable data.
Perhaps if we say it in SPANISH, they’ll get it.
aplicación = enforcement
construya la cerca = Build the fence
verificación del patrón del arreglo = fix employer verification
deporte a extranjeros criminales = deport criminal aliens
Great Caesar's Ghost! I was one of the ones that went to Coleman after Tuesday and asked how an otherwise functioning adult can prove to be such an idiot. I think Coleman has much, much fence mending to do, and I think he has proven himself an incomprehensible moron. So be it.
I'm an officer in a BPOU (SD62) that is part of the 5th Congressional District that put Alan Fine before the electorate and gave it Representative Keith Ellison or Muhammad or whatever the heck his name is as a gift to the American people. Alan Fine was and is a RINO of the 1st Order. I swore to myself after the 2006 election I would never actively campaign for a liberal again. If Fine had won I would have felt the need for an infinite shower.
I guess in the end we have to realize we live in a terminally liberal state. I hope that changes in my life, but am not sure it will.
Excellent.

Rather strange bedfellows there, eh.
