ABC's "World News Now," a news program that airs at 3:30 am Eastern, when most people in the U.S. are fast asleep, replayed Jake Tapper's earlier "World News" report on the war of words between Elizabeth Edwards, the wife of Democrat presidential candidate John Edwards, and Ann Coulter during its broadcast on Thursday.
At the conclusion of the report, hosts Taina Hernandez and Ryan Owens had a brief exchange, in which Owens proposed an "Ann Coulter blackout," similar to a "Paris Hilton blackout" that the program apparently has, and Hernandez, as a counterproposal, joked, "Or we can pit them together in some kind of skinny death match." At the end of Owens and Hernandez's exchange, and as the weather report began, someone in the control room at ABC queued-up Elton John's "The B**ch is Back."

I guess ABC News isn't above the "politics of hate," or to paraphrase Elizabeth Edwards' words to Ann Coulter, "the debasing of political dialogue."
Below is the transcript of the Hernandez-Owens exchange on Thursday morning's "World News Now:"
RYAN OWENS: "Ok. I have an idea."
TAINA HERNANDEZ: "Ok?"
OWENS: "You know how we have a Paris Hilton blackout? "
HERNANDEZ: (Laughs) "Yes?"
OWENS: "How about an Ann Coulter blackout?"
HERNANDEZ: "Ah, no Coulter cash for us."
OWENS: "No."
HERNANDEZ: "No. All right. Or we can pit them together in some kind of skinny death match?"
OWENS: "Skinny death match?"
(Unidentified person off-camera) "Or go to jail together."
OWENS: "Here's your weather."
HERNANDEZ: "Or go to jail together. That's Peter. Here's your weather."

Getting offended about what they, or anyone else, say about Ann Coulter, is similar to all of the other 'professionally offended' people we on FR tend to disparage.

No. You have a script.
Of course we should give the guy a break. His reference to the death of Ann Coulter was intended to express his opinion that Ann is of little value as a political commentator and would be more entertaining in a physical battle to the death.
But for some reason, liberals expect conservatives to give them a break when they express themselves using exaggeration, hyperbole, and sarcasm. If Ann or any other conservative exercises their right to express themselves in the same way, then such spokespeople are accused of being "mean" and of lowering the tone of political discourse.
Ann had to insist the other day that her comments about Edwards be broadcast in their entirety so that people would stop taking them out of context.
The hypocrisy and bias of the "mainstream" media is plain to see. And we have Ann to thank for making it so plain.
Fox News ‘Redeye’ is much much worse. I happened to catch it twice this week while traveling in the western time zone.
Its much worse.
Ann is probably very amused.
How stupid is that??? Ann would whip that wimpy wench with one skinny arm tied behind her back!
Hilton wouldn't last that long.
The only time I want to hear about "Ann Coulter" and "Paris Hilton" at the same time is in the following exchange:
"Welcome to the Paris Hilton, Mr. Smith. How can we help you?"
"My new bride Ann Coulter and I would like the Honeymoon Suite."
TS
Sheesh, your namesake shot an arrow into an apple that was sitting on his own son's head. Now, you couldn't get me to watch that on pay-per-view.
The term "death match" has lost its original Roman Colliseum meaning. While it wasn't innocuous, it was still a rather benign comment, particularly compared to some of the stuff I read on FR.
If I’m not mistaken, World News Now is a comedy program. There is (was?) a similar program on Fox, The Half Hour News Hour.
It would be a very short fight. But I’d pay to see it.
“A skinny death match” - That’s hilarious.
Only problem is that Coulter would have guns and Hilton would, at best, show up with a nail file...
Did you miss my point completely? Are you unaware of how difficult it has been for Ann Coulter to get the media to play her comments about Edwards in full context? It was not considered funny when Ann referred indirectly to the death of Edwards. It was treated like an uncivil and unjustified attack.
I'm not suggesting that we muzzle liberal spokespeople or take their comments out of context. I am suggesting that those same spokespeople need to afford Ann and others the same courtesy. The mistreatment of Ann at the hands of the liberal media is not a small thing and needs to stop.
“Skinny death match?”
Someone needs to tell Paris that the scale for skinniness is measure in coulters. With Ann as a one, Paris comes in around 1.3 coulters. No contest. Shoot, the upstairs apparition in Poltergeist couldn’t get under a 1.0.
LOL!
C-c-c-cat fight!
Ddddddon’t tttell mmmmah Mmmmmmmother
I wawwatched, Nnnnnurse Rrrrratched!!
