Here we are again my friends, hopefully for the last debate thread on this particular monstrous legislation. Proceedings are supposed to begin at 9:30 a.m. EST, with the cloture vote being taken at 10:30 a.m.
On a personal note, you've all been wonderful in your passion, vigilance, and commitment to the principles on which our country was founded. If I have to be in a foxhole, I want to be in it with you guys.
The Ministry of Truth strikes again.
No, it’s a vacuous post. We accomplish things politically in this country through political parties. And blindly assigning only blame, never credit to parties undermines, rather than helps, our cause.
Romney: No 'special pathway' for unlawful immigrants
By Ramesh Santanam, Associated Press Writer | June 28, 2007
CORAOPOLIS, Pa. --Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said the U.S. Senate's failure to pass an immigration bill backed by President Bush was a "victory for the people."
"People-one, Washington politicians-zero," the former Massachusetts governor told reporters near Pittsburgh on Thursday. "I think the failure of this bill is related to the Washington politicians' failure to connect with the American people."

deserve a pat on our backs. Great job everyone. God Bless America, now let's keep pressure on to ENFORCE THE LAWS! BUILD THE FENCE! Go after employers.
Not only to pre 1965 numeric levels but to pre 1960 qualification level.
Bush’s shows himself by his reaction to this. He says Congress needs to learn to come together on tough issues. In my mind he’s saying they don’t need to listen to the people.
I would have been happier had he come out saying that the American people have spoken and made it clear they want to enforce the current laws and secure the border, so let’s do it. Too bad that’s not what he’s saying.
We need to keep the pressure on for them to do just that.
I never thought I would say it - the two may not look like twins, but certainly like siblings.
Which party provided more “Nay” votes?
ROTFLOL. Love your parenthetical identifiers. Thanks for the laugh. It’s a good day.
Balderdash ! Some reasoned perspective would be welcome.
That’s my forte!
Here’s your answer: Of the 53 votes to kill this atrocious bill only 11 were Democrats! Republicans had enough votes to kill it all by themselves!
I hope it’s big and can be seen across the sea!
Our flag is flown every day. On the fourth of July we usually hang a brand new one so it’s real bright for another year.
Please tell me it’s really dead this time.
Just wanted to say thanks,a great day for America.
I don’t know what you are trying to point out. Are you saying that we should support the RNC and all Republicans, no matter what?
That said, we (that's right, WE THE PEOPLE) killed the bill and stopped him on this one issue where he is sadly, pathetically mistaken.
Incendiary rhetoric about the CIC, regardless of party affiliation, brings our side down to the level of DU. That ain't gonna win us any elections going forward.
FWIW...
Yeah, I've been trying to figure that out as well. The fact of the matter is that the Democrats had chance of passing an amnesty bill into law on their own and they had no plans to try.
It wasn't until Bush and senate republicans got together with the Democrats and proposed that an amnesty bill was doable. A very significant faction of the republican party was the driving force behind this bill - including all of the leadership.
It is not clear how anyone could praise the GOP or RNC for what has transpired over the last few weeks. Without the meddling of the republican whitehouse or the republican senators, this bill would have never been even considered.
The praise goes to the grass roots movements and to principled senators like Jeff Sessions.
