CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Hanesbrands Inc. will cut 5,300 jobs, or 11 percent of its current work force, and close nine sewing and assembly operations as it moves production to lower-cost sites in Asia and Central America.
The underwear and apparel maker said Wednesday it will close plants affecting nearly 5,000 employees in Canada, the United States, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
Another 350 management and administration positions also will be cut, mostly in the United States.

Surely now the prices of their products will come down significantly as they are saving so much money by selling US employees up the river.

“The bulk of the layoffs will be in the Dominican Republic, where 2,500 jobs will be eliminated, and in Mexico, where about 2,200 workers will lose their jobs. Another 70 jobs will be cut at the U.S. plant in Statesville, N.C.”

Remember in November. I would argue that the 2,500 Dominicans, 2,200 Mexicans, and 70 Americans affected by this move probably vote Democrat already.

Wait a minute. I thought NAFTA and CAFTA-DR were or would be responsible for U.S. jobs being lost to Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Now they are responsible for jobs being lost in Mexico and the Dominican Republic?

If the Asian-made britches are cheaper, their welfare cheques will stretch a bit more...
I have no idea why union people continue to vote Dem, when the Dem party is doing so much to ensure that all of their jobs go overseas to non-union, cheap labor.

Free-Trade is the biggest fallacy ever put upon American people. Deals like NAFTA have cost millions of jobs not only in the US but also in Mexico (as factories have left Mexico for Communist Chins)
More than just economics, it is bad for national security to be dependent on one country (Communist China) for products.

“70 jobs will be cut at the U.S. plant”
Big deal. Clothing manufacturing left the USA some years ago. It has been quite some years since a pair of Levis or any other mass produced clothing was made in the USA.
Clothing factories use to dot the landscape all over the US, but they are all “Gone With the Wind”.

It has nothing to do with them. The jobs are going to Asia.
