Removing illegals is not going to result in food lines. And if that is the case, is an economy built on illegality worth saving?

If all you care about is your net connection and where tonight’s dinner is coming from, then that’s your deal. Some of us are driven by loftier ideals...

Why do you consider such a monumentally important question “rhetorical”? If it’s a question at all, why is it not a serious one deserving of a serious answer?

Well put... and I agree Lijahsbubbe. All of these people who talk about all of this “Hate Bush” nonsense are really missing the point in all of this. The truth is we’ve been let down by Bush...

He has sold out in the most basic sense of the word — going in with Kennedy and the other Democrats on this. He is either having a temper tantrum over losing the majority in Congress, or he has ulterior motives (the NAU comes to mind). There is no other explanation for it, really.

And as far as those who say he’s done great things for this country and conservative causes... Besides a few vetoes (like stem cell research), and remaining strong on the WOT, how exactly is our government more limited, and more in line with conservative principles since he has been elected??? Laws like the “No Child Left Behind Act” have nothing to do with Limited Government but only serve to INCREASE Federal Control over what should be State or Locally controlled issues.

Anyone engaging in hero worship, as the so-called Bush bots who cannot stand hearing a little well-deserved criticism are, is NOT doing what is best for our country. Good citizenship requires us to be questioning of our government and our elected representatives. To NOT do so - ESPECIALLY when they members of your own party - is not only ignorant, but it’s downright dangerous for the republic...

As for claiming we are somehow wishing the other guy won in 2004, or that we are somehow presenting Hillary with the key to the White House in 2008 — they are old and tired scare tactics that seem to be trotted out whenever the other person doesn’t have a leg to stand on... That somehow our criticism of President Bush’s policies on Immigration and the impending disaster this will cause to our country has made us give up our principles or conservative beliefs is truly laughable.

I must admit, I never thought I’d see the day where a thread that called Bush a “moron” would be allowed to stay longer than 10 seconds on FR.

I flagged a post for obscenity two or three weeks ago that referred to Senator Kyl as "Senator Dickhead".

The moderator left it up. The whole thread was extremely ugly, including Jim Robinson (albeit non-obscene) participation.

I presume the insanity will pass, but right now it's getting difficult to tell this place apart from DU

Interesting question, what kind of economy would you have, a dynamic one where risk taker employers find willing employees to provide such things as food and shelter or an old Soviet type of economy where everything has to be approved by a politburo.

JMO, you would prefer the old soviet centrally planned type of economy.

Bush had a long tradition of cooperating with democrats prior to 2000. That was his triangulation into the White House whether conservatives like that fact or not.

As governor, he regularly created such compromises.

Border bots annihilated the Congess in 2006 to teach them a lesson.

Well, George Bush gets to teach you all a lesson now. He governs as he always has with principal but willing to cooperate with his opponents.

Immigration was inevitable once conservatives with held their votes in 2006. Its time to swallow the pill.

The dems control congress. This is the lesson of political puritanism.

The principal above politics card has been played. Reap what was sown.

We have a democratic congress. You now want a Dem president to go with the Dem congress. This might cause the border to be more strictly enforced but I rather doubt it.

"...illegal immigrants also fight in our armed forces overseas protecting America."

What leftwing hack fed you that lie. The truth is, while you don't have to be a citizen to enlist - you do have to prove you're legally in the US.

Politics matters. Politics doesn’t matter if it nothing more than a “show” and the will of the people is not respected.

I chose a party based on my values, not vice versa.

What was I thinking?

Wait let me pile on.

How many of these individuals are EVIL ANCHOR BABIES?

There is no telling how many thousands of evil anchor babies got their citizenship simply by being born here.

I totally agree with you.

I think we have seen two Bushes - the George Bush we nominated and elected the first time around - the man who cut taxes, strengthened the economy, waged war on terrorism, made military history - by taking over Afghanistan, and then followed it up by taking out a dangerous lunatic in Iraq. He is also the man who appointed a great conservative to the Supreme Court, and made numerous lower court appointments of conservatives.

The Second Term we have seen Jorge El Segundo, a President who broke his oath of office by refusing to enforce the Constitution and Federal Law by protecting our southern borders, and conspired with a foreign power - Mexico - to violate that border. A man who put a mediocrity in charge of the AG office who is pro-illegal, pro-affirmative action, pro-choice, and anti-Second Amendment merely because he was a family friend and Hispanic. A man who put a totally unqualified individual in charge of FEMA merely through family connections. A man who engineered the appiontment of a pro-illegal alien Hispanic to the Senate from Florida. A man who tried to outsource American port operations during a war against Islamic terrorists to an Islamic Nation. A man who tried to put a mediocre attorney who was a family friend on the Supreme Court. A man who did an about face on the religion of global warming. A man who seriously tried to sit down and negotiate with Iranians who are pumping men, material, expertise and advise into Iraq which is killing American soldiers. A man who persecutes U.S. border guards for trying to protect us. A man who arrogantly ignores the majority opinion of his base and the American public by conspiring with a low-life like Senator Kennedy to get through an Amnesty bill to cover those illegal aliens he helped sneak into America, and who promotes a Rent-a-Slave Program as a “Guest worker program. A man who rejects English as the official language of America. A man who refuses to pardon a close aid who is sentenced to prison on trumped charges by a hostile Democrat Congress.

I saw some questionable things in his first term - retaining Clinton appointees in important offices, failure to retaliate in the Fallujah butchery of some American contractors, references to Islam as a “peaceful” religion, signing McCain-Feingold into law, and a willingness to sign an Assault Rilfe Extention. All of the preceding appeared to be a cause for concern, but things seemed to be going well over all so I overlooked it.

I have changed my assessment of this man. I believe he flim-flammed us. He initially presented himself as a conservative - a “compassionate conservative” But as soon as he no longer needed his base, he apparently felt free to implement an aganda which was anything BUT conservative.

His latest activites regarding the Amnesty Bill and his rent-a-slave program may very well cause the destruction of the Republican Party - and of America itself utlimately.
At the very least it was a sure contributor to the loss of Congress to the Rats in 2006 and may very well loose the election for President in 2008.

OH BTW, lenin, stalin, hitler, mao, fidel etc. etc. also had "loftier ideals", but go ahead, no one is stopping you from following their footsteps.

I almost don’t know how to respond to that. Are you saying taxpayers should be subsidizing employers who cheat the system by importing illegal labor?

While enlistees are all, technically, legal residents - quite of few of them were illegal aliens up until they walked into a recruiting office and offered to sign up, at which point their residency paperwork was fast-tracked to enable them to enlist.

They were basically made legal solely to allow them to serve in the armed forces - had they not signed up they would still be illegals.

I think its a good program: and I'll note that all the "people lined up waiting to legally enter the United States unlike these filthy illegals" could also hop to the front of the line if they wanted by serving in the US Armed Forces.

Ah yes the crime of taking a job to clean a toilet, a regular charlie manson that person is.

OH, BTW, those two BP officers were found guilty by a jury of their peers. How come you leave that fact convienently out.
