RALEIGH, N.C. (June 27) - Elizabeth Edwards pleaded Tuesday with Ann Coulter to "stop the personal attacks," a day after the conservative commentator said she wished Edwards' husband, Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, had been killed by terrorists

Personally, I don't care for some comments Ann makes. She comes off like a PMS powderkeg with a short, hot fuze. Some remarks made by her have been proven toxic to Conservativism, this situation is indicative.
Real men aren’t ashamed to hide behind their cancer stricken wives.
I am so glad someone else sees it that way. She was illustrating a double standard, not wishing Edwards dead. Any other interpretation is just knee-jerk, or from someone who didn’t hear the entire exchange.

She clearly is overdoing it and may be undermining her health.
Oh, and spare me your Pharisaic self-righteousness - I have nursed family members through chemotherapy.
Dear Ann, take your Midol.
Thank you. I was trying to write what you so skillfully wrote. You summed it up perfectly. The MSM is claiming she called for Edwards to die in a terrorist attck. She did no such thing. Bill Maherr did say that about Dick Cheney and there was not even a sigh from the MSM.
You could just stop there.
I agree with wideawake.....
Islamic Terrorists would slap the crap out of the Silken Pony, and put him in a burka.
It looks like John spends all the money on hair care in the family. There is none left for his wife.
Seriously, I know the poor woman has cancer. However, it looks like they could still fix her hair up nice. John won’t share his hair money.
Hey, it’s a cheap internet solution - not everybody needs enough bandwidth to watch internet porn all day.
Ms. Edwards can not be criticized ever. She has cancer and is dying. So anything she says is as if it is from on high.
How dare anyone speak ill of her or her husband.
Sarcasm off

I don’t understand your comment. How can you say she wasn’t imitating Maher, but later say she made the comment since Maher made a similar one?
Seems rather contradictory.
And my point is there are better ways to point out the double standard. Coulter’s comment gives the media a convenient out to completely ignore the double standard....which they will.
Can you just imagine the laughing stock the country would have made out of FDR if Eleanor had pulled such a prank as Elizabeth Edwards did? Of course those were the days before the ‘feminization’ of males or the ‘testosorization’ of females.
Apparently the tittering of the young audience reflects the mindset of the adult population these days, according to this poll.
How very sad for the nation.
But the terminally PC have no need for subtlety. They want to be loved for being "nice". There has never been any political survival, ever, by being "nice" *.
I look at the bright side. Freedom of speech for everyone. I have the means of sorting them out.
Ann, you go girl!
“Oh, and spare me your Pharisaic self-righteousness”
My comment came from kindness not hypocrisy.
But no matter; I simply disagree.
She didn't say it seriously - she said "Well, maybe I should say that instead since Bill Maher can say that stuff and get away with it."
She was making a joke about Bill Maher - not making a direct comment about Edwards.
It's as if I said: "Maybe I should call Barack Obama a cokehead, since Bill Maher said Bush was a cokehead."
Am I actually calling Obama a cokehead? No, I am not. I am giving a hypothetical to demonstrate what a clown Maher is.
