Chris Matthews bushwacks Ann Coulter by setting up a call from Elizabeth Edwards during his full hour with Coulter on Hardball last night.

Video Here

Mrs. Edwards gets owned by Ann Coulter when it is brought up the sleezy tactics that Edwards (A Democrat candidate for President of the United States of America) has used in his profession as an Attorney that exploits doctors and children for his own enrichment.

Notice what she said about how Edwards used his son's death for political advantage. Who is the one being "tasteless?"

Ann's the one being tasteless. She never establishes that Edwards is using his son's death for political advantage. Maybe he is, but she doesn't come anywhere near proving it. Neither does she offer anything to substantiate that he "demands credit for not using his son's death" for advantage. She just says so. In my view, there's nothing wrong with talking about the death of your son. Maybe Edwards was being opportunistic, but without solid prove, it's out of line to say so.

He had it coming,

You may have missed my point. I have no doubt that Matthews and his bosses are very happy with how things went. He got some ratings, now he's getting a lot of buzz, and no viewer is going to be moved by any of it. It's info-tainment. Pro wrestling. Each side will root for their side and remain on their side. It was a big winner for Matthews, and another day at the office for Ann.

Let them wail!

Let them lament!

Let them suffer!!

After Jimmy Carter, Jorge El Primero, two terms of Bill Clinton and two terms of Jorge El Segundo, America needs a real American like Ronald Reagan in the White House again and Ann Coulter would shred Helen Thomas to pieces with her tongue.

edwards’ point is made about ann adding personal attacks to her commentary and opinion... her right as an american to do so... ann misses the point that she can berate the left with just as witty comments without, but she dishes back what the left so often uses ie trailer park talk references, and linda trippisms... ann is dishing it out to those who cannot take what they give and she does it relentlessly.

she handled the ambush adequately, but should have commented that matthews, who knew about the call the day before, should have disclosed to ann his intentions of hearing from her and not her husband.

that behaviour of the left, and edwards calling in as a “mother of a dead child” justifies ann’s comments on the unacceptability of anyone commenting on what these victims of society say no matter how wrong.

ann could have handled the ambush better... but held her own in a den of liberalism... evident by the mccain signs being held up.

“Ann’s the one being tasteless. She never establishes that Edwards is using his son’s death for political advantage”

Perhaps you are correct in asserting that Coulter doesn’t “prove” the charge, however, the evidence is out there. A recent story reported that even Kerry recalled how Edwards said he was going to tell Kerry something he had never told anyone, then began the silly over the top story of holding his sons body and promising to fight for the “little people”...only problem was, Edwards had already performed the SAME routine, tears and all, for Kerry before.

[.. If you believe in Jesus Christ (and try to follow the example of the kind of life He lived), you should be praying for Coulter to gain inner peace and let the hate go. ..]

What bible are you reading?.. Jesus was Ann Coulter to the prevailing clergy(politicians) for 33 years.. or vice versa.. i.e. snakes, vipers and sarcophagus's(coffins)

Even people who hate Ann are going to have a sympathetic feeling for going on a show for an interview and getting blindsided by his wife. That is something that is never done and should never be done. Most Americans understand fair and dirty and will not like this.

This was a setup from the get go and Edwards sent his wife since he could not afford to lose that “debate” w/Queeny. In the end it was a Battle of Wits with two Peashooters against a Sherman Tank! Buy that Lady a Steak!

Pray for W and Our Troops

Elizabeth Edwards is saying "we", meaning she and John Edwards, should debate the issues. John Edwards was the first one to join the nutroots and bail on the debate sponsored by the all-Democrat Congressional Black Caucus, because it was going to be carried on Fox News.

John Edwards IS NOT willing to debate. For informed people, Elizabeth Edwards came off like a fool, John Edwards came off like a coward and everyone knows that Ann Coulter wants to provoke. It's pathetic for a Presidential Candidate to call up a pathetic cable show to talk with whom? Another candidate? NO. To complain and whine about Ann Coulter.

it's out of line to say so.

I'm quoting myself here...I have to catch myself. Being "out of line" is Ann's career. If she weren't out of line, no one would talk about her or watch her or buy her books. It's her whole schtick. She'd be nothing without it, and this is just the latest example. It works well for her and her political enemies, really.

but her comments really do lower the tone of the debate at precisely the moment we should be raising it.

In general, I agree with you. But Ann isn't positioning herself as a serious political commentator (although she is spot on from an issues point of view). She has positioned herself as a mocker of the left, much like Franken positioned himself as a mocker of the right. (The only difference is, the right doesn't get their widdle feelings hurt by Franken, but the left is always ready to play the victim.)

I do think that Ann goes too far sometimes, but so have the mockers from the left, so there we are.

Baloney and baloney. No one who hates Ann is going to give a rat's butt. Boo-hoo, they had someone call in to challenge her. So what? And I seriously doubt it's never done. Here's a breakdown of what happened:

Matthews, Coulter, and Edwards stage a mutually beneficial dustup that delivers ratings for Chrissy, attention for Ann, and sympathy for Edwards. Those who like Ann still like Ann. Those who hate Ann still hate Ann. And tomorrow Matthews ratings will be back in the sewer. End of story.

It's how she gets her publicity. Her most out of line comments probably coincide nicely with her book release dates.

That woman looks like an Ethiopian refugee! Will somebody give her a cheeseburger?!?!?! Have you ever met Ann Coulter? If you had, you would not make such a statement. I met her at a D.C. function once, and she looked great.

Someone posted that story. It’s from Shrum’s book, told to him by John Kerry. I can’t say I’m at the point where I’m ready to take THEIR word for it, are you? And anyway, maybe he did tell the story before, but that doesn’t mean he’s using his son’s death for political gain on bumper stickers. Again, I’m not trying to be the breck girl defender, but then I guess you can’t be a devil’s advocate unless you’re willing to advocate for the devil. Anyway, it’s silly of me to talk about Ann being out of line. That’s her whole schtick.

"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you." (Luke 6:27-31. NIV)

Nice prooftexting...not. Your selective use of Scripture to make your point is very telling.
