The Buzz: Vice President Schwarzenegger?
Sacramento Bee ^ | 6/25/7 | Steve Wiegand

Posted on 06/25/2007 8:30:42 AM PDT by SmithL

The latest issue of Time magazine has one of those flavor-of-the-month, warm-and-fuzzy cover stories on New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and our own governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger. The article gushed all over the idea of a maverick-Republican ticket featuring Bloomberg as the presidential candidate with the guv as his faithful Austrian American sidekick. (Of course, all of this was just before Bloomberg announced he could no longer look in the mirror and call himself a Reep.)

At the article's conclusion, it even quotes gazillionaire investment expert Warren Buffett saying how he likes the idea of a Bloomberg-Schwarzie presidential ticket. Buffett says he checked the U.S. Constitution, and while it's pretty clear the Austrian-born guv can't be president, "it's silent on the vice president."

Uh, not exactly. The 12th Amendment says "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of president shall be eligible to that of vice president of the United States." That would appear to rule out Schwarzenegger.

Of course there's always secretary of interior. Or chief justice. Or Chief Oompa-Loompa.

And while we're at it, does that mean Bill can't be Hillary's running mate?

He may have checked it. But he certainly didn't READ it. Maybe next time he shouldn't forget to put on his reading glasses.

Great, another immigration law that our leaders will refuse to enforce.

Buffett says he checked the U.S. Constitution, and while it's pretty clear the Austrian-born guv can't be president, "it's silent on the vice president."

Except for the part that says, if you are disqualified to be president, you can't be vice president.

I can't believe that a man of Buffet's intelligence would even make such a moronic statement.

“Buffett says he checked the U.S. Constitution, and while it’s pretty clear the Austrian-born guv can’t be president, ‘it’s silent on the vice president.’”

In the event the president dies, the VP has to be ready to take his place. This is why fathead, muscle brain AAAnold can’t be VP.

Constitutionaly ineligible.

Rules of Acension.
To hold the office, one must be a natural citizen. If the President dies, the person in this office has historically been 'promoted' to the presidency.

So, should we be wary that the person holding the position of Speaker of the House should also be a natural citizen just to be sure, being third in line for the position [behind General Westmorland, of couse!]? ;)
