He heats with gas, and it costs much more to cool a home than to heat it. Also, heat from lights which are typically mounted high don’t do much for the overall heating system unless there are ceiling fans to bring the warm air down from the ceiling.

I’m curious as to what’s so bad about being 32, single, and living in a loft. Is there some sort of social code that says that’s unacceptible?

I heat my basement with 4 big computers and some networking gear. I used the same approach during a 3 month period in a San Diego apartment, but only 2 computers did the job fine.

Our local Home Depot and Lowe's have a few LED fixtures for sale. We use them in a few places where light is useful, but not critical. Reading lights are much better as incandescent or halogen. An LED is fine for stumbling down a hallway or in a bathroom.
