Rejected [Anglicans vote against blessing same-sex unions]

WINNIPEG -- After a weekend of emotional debate, the Anglican Church of Canada has rejected a long campaign by its most liberal members to let priests bless the partnerships of same sex couples.

About 300 delegates to the church's national meeting in Winnipeg voted Sunday against allowing blessing ceremonies for gays and lesbians.

The decision complicates the position and future of the church because earlier in the day delegates approved a historic motion that said same-sex blessings did not violate the "core doctrines" of the church.

The voting Sunday followed years of squabbling over the matter and theological study within the church. Currently the United Church is the only large, mainstream denomination in this country to bless or marry same sex couples.

While the decision to deny same-sex blessings will please many conservative Anglicans -- and help preserve the unity of the mostly-orthodox global Anglican Communion -- it is a stinging setback for thousands of gay and lesbian worshippers and their champions, who have been pressing the issue for more than a decade.

Just curious.. I know a lot of Conservative Anglican churches in the US are aligning themselves with the African Anglican Union, do you know if there is any move to align with the Canadian Anglican church as they seem to also be acting in a more orthodox way?

Perhaps the radical Bishop of New Westminster will do the honorable thing and affiliate with The Episcopal Church/ECUSA.

I would guess he will just be more likely to ignore this and do what he wants to do.

I am curious to know what the delegates consider their core doctrines?

Not Anglican here, but good news to my ears...it shows some sanity in Canada and in the Anglican Church.

Every day is a great day when the Religious Left suffers a defeat.

Typical for the Anglicans, isn't it? Charge up to the border and then fail to cross it. They'll wait for some Episcopalians to take the next step, the Anglicans will refuse to condemn it and BOOM, another fag-friendly fait accompli.

How is the propriety of a church endorsing the blessing of same-sex unions even debatable?

Then the gays & lesbians should join a frickin’ church that shares their philosophy! Geesh, how complicted is that?!

d'accord

I saw the final vote as a compromise to avoid a schism.

Yet the schism appears inevitable. The liberals won't give up and liberals are masters at incrementalism. Each General Synod moves the official stance the church further to the left.

The Sun Media version of the story was more accurate:

The Anglican Church of Canada moves closer to blessing same sex unions

Because their intent is to degrade and defame anything noble or holy, that's why.

They’re not looking to create. They are looking to destroy.

"... the schism appears inevitable"

Agreed - the Anglican Church of Canada is merely (and rather gutlessly) forestalling the inevitability and inevitable consequences of its apostasy.

In the meantime, renegade Priests will continue to 'bless' deviant unions without censure from the Hierarchy & the overall membership of Canada's once dominant Christian Sect will, like that of its Episcopalian brethren Stateside, remain in literal free-fall.

Interesting Globe Poll result today:
"In your view, did Anglican bishops do the right thing in vetoing a
resolution to allow same-sex union blessings in parish churches?"

Yes: (83%) 7640 votes
No: (17%) 1612 votes
Total votes: 9252

If the church is like my wife’s Presbyterian church there are a lot of older members and not a lot of young or new members. I don’t see the older members wanting that kind of change. The newer ones... perhaps.

Soooooo, they pass a resolution saying there’s nothing wrong with gay unions then vote to continue the ban on gay unions. They are not only apostates but hypocrital apostates.
