Romney: Attacks On Mormon Religion Troubling
CBS 4 MIAMI ^ | 23 JUNE 2007 | AP

Posted on 06/23/2007 1:28:02 PM PDT by Extremely Extreme Extremist

(AP) SALT LAKE CITY -- Mitt Romney said Saturday that criticism of his Mormon religion by rival GOP presidential campaigns is happening too frequently.

“Clearly, any derogatory comments about anyone’s faith—those comments are troubling. The fact they keep on coming up is even more troubling,” Romney said during a fundraising trip in the home state of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Mormon church is one of the fastest-growing religions and claims about 12.5 million members worldwide. But many evangelical Christians in crucial primary states such as Iowa and South Carolina consider the faith a cult.

Romney’s remarks follow an apology from GOP rival John McCain’s campaign for comments about the Mormon church allegedly made this year by a volunteer.

Also recently, Republican presidential hopeful, Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas, issued a similar apology for a campaign worker’s e-mail to Iowa Republican leaders that was an apparent attempt to draw unfavorable scrutiny of Romney’s religion. Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani apologized after the New York Sun noted that a campaign aide had forwarded to a blogger a story about unofficial Mormon lore. Legend has it that a Mormon would save the Constitution, the story said. The campaign aide passed the story along with a note: “Thought you’d find this interesting.”

Romney said in a large presidential race there always will be some volunteers or workers who cannot be controlled. But he said the difference between derogatory comments that originated from the McCain campaign and others is that the Arizona senator has not personally apologized to him.

“In the case of Senator Brownback and Mayor Giuliani ... they called immediately. They each spoke with me personally. I don’t have any issue with that at all,” Romney said.

He said McCain “can do whatever he feels is the right thing. There’s no need for me to suggest how people respond to things that go on in the campaign.”

Tucker Bounds, a McCain campaign spokesman, said the McCain campaign has already apologized.

“It’s a very sincere apology. There is absolutely no place for those type of comments in our campaign,” he said.

Romney, a former governor of Massachusetts, said he had not spoken with McCain since the last presidential debate, on June 5.

Romney used a fundraiser hosted by Utah Jazz owner Larry Miller to criticize the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law. It banned unregulated, unlimited contributions from corporations, unions and wealthy individuals to national political parties and federal candidates.

“The bill ought to be repealed,” he said. “It’s been the wrong course for American campaigns.”

Romney said he favors unlimited donations as long as they are immediately disclosed on the Internet.

Romney was attending fundraisers in Salt Lake City and in Logan on Saturday.

Christianity is the only religion I have seen where one group says not only are you "wrong" you are lying about what you believe, you don't really believe in Christ.

Then you don't know much about Shiite's and Sunni's

You asked me to do this on another thread, then you never responded, do you want to find that link and reply, or is this busy work you give others who ask this question?

I was, like, 250-300 behind in THIS thread when I got back to the computer this morning.

For a while it felt as I was swimming 2.5 MPH in a 3 MPH stream!

So if YOU could do it, it would be very helpful!

Thanks.

I view Mormonism as a Christian heresy, but not as a cult...

??

What's the difference?

I’m sincerely sorry that you have such a reading comprehension problem.

I know what you mean: it's damned abominable; ain't it!

Been here, answered that question for you on another thread, go look inyour history.

But now it's been asked in THIS thread.

I don't think answering those who ask you twice is against LDS headquarters rules; is it?

Really, the only train of thought here is the refusal to answer directly. Apparently, you didn’t answer Delphi some time ago, & now your only answer to me is to ask me to show you. Not a bad debating technique, but not moving us forward either.

No I am just having a bad day with my vision! one eye is like no vision but light sensitive so I hold it shut, but when it open it gives better spectrum to the good eye but harsh on the bad eye.

and the endless battle with grit that manufactures in the eye lashes and I wash it out but it returns with in hours making vision blurry and the dyslexic and ADD Yikes...

"Stop the world I want to get off!"

Not counting my mobility and gall bladder, and female plumbing which I might need an operation, etc, etc.

resty,
I’m sorry to hear you have so many health related issues
to deal with at once.

Is there any possible treatment for the vision issue?

Is the Gall Bladder issue just gall stones, or something
else?

You can pm me instead of posting here - and maybe I
should have done the same.

best,
ampu

A cult normally is a personality driven group centered around one dominant individual who tries to control all aspects of cult identity and behavior. Normally, no provision is made for succession.
The cult attempts to control all aspects of a person’s life.
Creed or theology is hazy, secret, and directed toward fulfillment of the wishes of the leader.
A heresy may or may not be any or all of these things.
Mormonism is an institutional organization with definite and defined leadership structure, procedures for succession, no attempt to control all aspects of a votary’s life, and a very specific and detailed creed which is publically broadcast.

I would predict that we are about to be 'graced' with a dump from the usual suspect(s), likely complete with I said / you said and maybe even God said or Prophet Smith said ... all apologistic garbage designed to avoid the truth and promote the lies at the heart of Mormonism.

There is no truth regarding Joseph Smith that would change the blinded mind of a dedicated Mormonism Apologist because the darkness is essential to the self-maintained continued obedience to the demonic manufactured religion of 'these latter days'.

It is only a matter of time until we will get 'the religion is Christianity because we have Jesus Christ in our name', or some variation of same. No doubt there will be multiple posts pleading that Mormonism is Christianity despite not being orthodox Christianity; Mormonism's founders have been teaching that Christianity had fallen into apostasy, but Christians are suppose to swallow that foolishness as the Mormonism APologist's checkmate to every sect save Mormonism. Well this old man isn't going away quietly while demons work their way at FR.

Frankly, it is becoming disgusting to see such otherwise rational people continue to defend this heresy laden Christianity lookalike. I fully expect to now be assaulted for 'trying to destroy the faith of others' ... regardless of the FACT that Christians are commanded to oppose apostasy, heresies, and demonic efforts toward our fellow human beings.

By Mormonism perspective we've been shown since Mitt began his run for President, Christians are supposed to sit down, shut up, and remain quiet and patient while this false religion proselytizes freely at FR claiming to be THE restored Christianity God's Holy Spirit could not maintain after the last Apostle died.

Perhaps I didn’t make things clear enough for you. The two items mentioned, “Mormon Doctrine” and “Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith” are books, they are not scripture as you have so generously pointed out to everyone on this thread. Thank you.
