ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. -- Immigration authorities arrested 175 "immigration violaters" in Orange County this week as part of a weeklong crackdown targeting undocumented immigrants and immigration fugitives.
Among those arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were 27 "criminal aliens" believed to be in the United States illegaly and with prior criminal records.
One of those 27 was Jamie Peña-Martinez, 30, a previously deported from Mexico with a prior conviction for child molestation. He was arrested at a residence in Santa Ana.
The remaining 26 criminal aliens were all under deportation orders by immigration judges, according to an ICE news release.
Re-entering the United States after deportation is a felony violation carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. The ICE release said the United States Attorney's Office is reviewing the latest arrests.
Another of the arrested immigrants was identified as a Mexican national wanted by Mexican authorities for ambushing and murdering his 74-year-old uncle nine years ago in Zacatecas over a land dispute, according to the ICE release. Orange County District Attorney investigators got a tip from the Mexican Attorney General's Office that Almarez Reveles Gonzalo, 35, was residing in Orange County; he was then traced to a home in Baldwin Park, where he was arrested Thursday. Gonzalo was transported to the border and turned over to Mexican authorities hours after his arrest.
"The five-day effort is the largest single enforcement action conducted by ICE's fugitive operations teams to date in Orange County," the news release said. "ICE received substantial assistance in this week's operation from the Orange County Sheriff's Department and the California Department of Corrections Parole Division."
The release says ICE has five fugitive teams assigned to the Southland, "the most of any major city in the nation. The newest team was deployed in Orange County June 1. In the last nine months, the Los Angeles area fugitive operations teams have made more than 1,600 arrests, including more than 300 criminal aliens."
According to ICE databases, there are currently 632,189 fugitive aliens in the United States, the release said.
"The majority of the aliens taken into custody this week are Mexican nationals, but the group also included immigration violators from nine countries, including India, Kenya, the Philippines, and Colombia," the release said.

I heard on the radio this morning.. another tunnel was found here in San Diego, coming from Mexico.. I dont under stand how this could happen, as Senator DiFi, came down here for a photo op, last year and said this was illegal...and she was going to pass legiation to see that it would be against the law...
Let’s see now....175 “immigration violators” arrested in Orange County out of perhaps,1.5 million, means that they’ve caught 0.000119% of them.
well, I wouldn’t call it aggressive. I live in Orange County, and please... I could walk ten feet in any direction, knock on a door and find 12 criminal illegals.
They always (lie) and say that there are 12 million illegals in the US. Give me a break. There are that many in L.A. county alone.
I suspect that this is just being done for show, and after he gets his bill (and especially when he doesn't) it will all be called off.

I wonder if they took these guys DNA samples before they deported them in case they come back under another name /sarc
Unless they had DNA samples taken in prison. Do they do that now?
“I suspect that this is just being done for show, and after he gets his bill (and especially when he doesn’t) it will all be called off”
We will have to apologize and have a special Bill passed to repay the “victims” millions of dollars...
No they dont take DNA or fingerprints...
Thats why they are arrested 20 times and deported 5 times and have a long rap sheet and come back and kill innocent American kids on the highways...
Now it's "criminal aliens"?
Paint them any color and they are still illegal aliens.
Before it's all said and done this concerning issues will have 300 to 400 different ways to paint an "illegal alien".
The US Attorneys (George Bush's appointees) are very easy on these returnees. Re-enrty after deportation is a felony but I have never heard of any prosecution for it
The basic statutory maximum penalty for reentry after deportation is a fine under title 18, imprisonment for not more than 2 years, or both. However, with regard to an alien whose "removal" was subsequent to a conviction for commission of three or more misdemeanors involving drugs, crimes against the person, or both, or a felony (other than an aggravated felony), the statutory maximum term of imprisonment is 10 years. Moreover, if deportation was subsequent to conviction for an aggravated felony, the statutory maximum term of imprisonment is 20 years
All new episode of the OC?
There's been a "push" on for about the past year or so. Interior enforcement has gone from nonexistent to negligible. I'm guessing for, as you suspect, mostly cosmetic purposes.
