A college education for illegal aliens (shaking head in disbelief)
The Washington Times ^ | 06/22/07 | Kris W. Kobach

Posted on 06/22/2007 5:04:44 AM PDT by SE Mom

It's no secret that the Senate immigration bill rewards 12-20 million illegal aliens with immediate amnesty. What is less well known is that the bill also allows illegal aliens to receive in-state tuition rates at public universities, discriminating against U.S. citizens from out of state and law-abiding foreign students.

These provisions are buried deep in the Senate bill. They are part of the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act section.

The DREAM Act is a nightmare. It repeals a 1996 federal law that prohibits any state from offering in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens, unless the state also offers in-state tuition rates to all U.S. citizens. On top of that, the DREAM Act offers a fast track to U.S. citizenship for illegal aliens who attend college.

On its own, the DREAM Act never stood a chance of passing — even in the Senate. Every scientific opinion poll on the subject has shown over 70 percent opposition to giving in-state tuition benefits to illegal aliens.

Not surprisingly, the DREAM Act languished in committee for five years — until the opportunity arose to hitch it to the Senate's "comprehensive" immigration bill of 2006. Now, Sen. Edward Kennedy and his allies have added it to this year's amnesty bill, too. They know that the only way to slip such bad legislation past the American people is to bury it in a comprehensive bill.

That's the worst place to be. "Too rich" to get assistance but "too poor" to afford the burden of taxes, loans, etc.

Yep. They were more than happy to give me student loans out the wazoo.... which was the only choice I had, if I wanted the degrees.

Oh well... in nursing ...they just keep upping the ante... so I may never be through with college... unless I change professions. :)

I seriously wonder about anyone that would think this is the right thing to do. Giving illegals tuition breaks- simply because they are/were illegals does not make sense and in no way is fair to citizens. It seems our own politicians for the most part no longer care about fairness to our citizens.

I have a question about all this- will they also be eligible for financial aid? It would seem to me that they will be, and if so that will be another big financial drain and will end up shortchanging citizens. There is only so much college money available and if large numbers of people suddenly become eligible it will mean many will not be able to attend college.

This is so sad that we Americans are treated like this in their own country. I agree it has to stop.

Oklahoma just voted and the Governor signed a bill making it illegal to give them instate tuition and now this bill wants to make the OK invalid.

Oklahomans are against this bill in big numbers and our #1 Senator Jim Inhofe is helping lead the battle. Dr. Coburn has had surgery and hope he is back in time for the vote because we need every vote.

The powers behind this bill were against our OK bill which is the toughest of any state but it was passed by a bipartisan group and signed by a Dem Governor against his better judgment but he didn't want to face the wrath of Oklahomans including his own party. This bill is horrible and anyone supporting it needs taken out in the primary and we need to keep track of those Senators that are not up for reelection that vote for cloture and for the bill and get them primary opponents when they are up for reelection.

Called and e-mailed Feinstein and Boxer, ripping both of them a new one for their support (especially Feinstein) of this disastrous bill.

These Senators must be receiving tremendous payoffs/bribes to convince them to sell their country out. I don't know how they can walk with their heads up anymore.

Here is a list of key Republican Senate contacts for EVERYONE to email regarding immigration. This will expand the “Chicano Studies” Departments on all campuses. You know... the college degree program that basically teaches you how oppressed the ‘brown skinned people’ are and how much more the ‘gringo’ taxpayers should be giving back to them as ‘contrition’ for their blatant racism and oppression.

In California, residents whether they be American citizens or aliens, legal or illegal are able to enroll & pay lower tuition fees in the state universities than out-of-state Americans.

Is this a great country or what!!!

Right. Then we have to hire lots of Spanish professors to teach that advanced education in Spanish. All of course while Americans have to pay more to support this and have less money to spend on their own kids education. The sellout of America has sped up so fast I am close to finding a village in Borneo and burying a pile of gold and booze.

“It should be noted, that on other campuses, like Berkeley, with large populations of Japanese, Chinese and Indian students, the only group demanding classes taught in other languages are Spanish speaking kids. At least I havent seen any Japanese students demanding anything - they’re usually busy in the library studying.”

Great country it’s going to be, our kids are spoiled rotten from the parents with far less supervision and the Mexican adults that will be 25% of our population in the next two decades will also be spoiled rotten. Like living in France in the last couple decades with the constant threat of nuclear terrorism and without the nod of having mistresses like in France ;)

Makes me think of the Beatles. Of course, revolution was talked about as the Dems gave tons of wealth away to minorities and welfare moms back in their day. Well, I will help but not in a physical sense. I educate and can reach the masses. I loved the movie V. Did you see it?

I am going to go to Mexico, become a citizen then become an illegal alien. That would be great! Get free housing, food, college education and all the hot senioritas and great drugs I can get my hands on!!! Meanwhile, my so very wise American leaders can continue to bend over my former American brothers but what the hell would I care? At least me and the very wise leaders would now be on the same page!!!(sarcasm off).
