WASHINGTON -- A Fort Worth congresswoman wants manufactured and mobile homes to come equipped with weather radios.
Congresswoman Kay Granger's proposal comes after this week's deaths of at least six people in flooding in North Texas.
The Fort Worth Republican is co-sponsoring legislation requiring that every manufactured home be supplied with a weather radio.
The radio would automatically carry emergency broadcasts of the National Weather Service.
The requirement would be part of the federal manufactured home construction and safety standards.
The bill is named after CJ Martin, a two-year-old boy killed in a 2005 tornado. His mother helped get a law passed in Indiana that requires weather radios be installed in new mobile and manufactured homes.
Really? I’ll have to check it out. I worked until 3am last night. They told me a bad storm cam thru a few hours later. I slept right thru it.
So like you have to turn them on, right???? I have one, they’re neat but you do have to use human input to turn them on ....
Wouldn’t this be redundant in a mobile home park? I mean, those place *are* tornado magnets. Who needs a weather radio to state the inevitable?
p.s. ... I also read somewhere that if you tune your TV to channel 2 and turn the contrast or brightness down that if there’s a heavy storm in the area the TV would light up and bloom white .....
Maybe it could also do duty as a CO or smoke detector.

Yup, they are about twenty or so dollars for a basic model....but you do have to turn it on. :)
My FORMER congressman was a Mainstreet Republican.
We need a law for this?
Okay, then the next law would be for them to turn their radios on.
To what channel?
Then what?
That’s ok. My current Congressman funded the defense of Cuban Terrorists.
Life is not without risk, and life without risk is not work living.
Legislating common sense is something liberals do.
Like our former Governor said, “A Texas divorce is like a tornado; either way, someone loses a trailer home.” :)
Hey, I lived in a mobile home while going to school. The people were a lot higher class than the apartment dwellers I once lived with. Mobile home residents OWNED their homes, while apartment dwellers RENTED. Quieter and older on average too.
Weather radios don’t work well in many areas. TV news, local radio and even cable actually does a pretty good job.
And if you think it will really help, then you too are stupid. Sorry Kay, I think you're a nice lady and all that, but why not try thinking for a change?
Are they gonna assign goons with billy clubs to make sure the idiot homeowners have them plugged in?
Maybe so. Perhaps Nagin can be in charge. :)
How long do you think it would be before the radio's were on ebay?
Another lifelong DemocRAT who ran with the R to assure her election. She was elected after Democrat Pete Geren retired. He was much more conservative than this liberal Kay Granger.
I know all kinds of people live in trailer parks. I was trying to make fun of the politicians trying to mandate something that was almost totally useless. I’ve got a weather radio, and listening to the government broadcasts is extremely irritating. It’s all prerecorded and covers weather over a wide area. The TV and radio stations are 99% more valuable for getting up to the minute storm info out. Nothing beats a live doppler radar map on the TV to know what’s going on. The weather radios are nearly useless for anything.
