......don’t bet on it. I know some find it hard to believe but the AP has been wrong before.

A lot of the remaining prisoners should probably be sent back to the countries of which they are citizens. Surely we’ve already gotten any useful intelligence info out of them that we’re ever going to. And a lot of them are from countries like Saudi Arabia who will deal with them a whole lot more harshly (and quickly) than we ever will. Where the countries they belong to can be pretty well counted on to make them wish they were back at Guantanamo, or simply execute them quickly, they should be sent home.

According to the Associated Press, President George W. Bush's top national security and legal advisers are expected to discuss the move at the White House on Friday and it appears a consensus is developing for the first time among Bush's inner circle.

The title doesn't even come close to the facts in the article.

It was not immediately clear whether the meeting will result in a final recommendation on Guantanamo to President Bush.

He’s saying Clinton was right; these are crimes, but not acts of war against the US. There it’s not a “War on Terror”, it’s a “police action”.

Bush is as awful as his daddy.

What the h*ll happened to this guy?

It’s a sad day in American when we cave in to political correctness. The terrorists are laughing their asses off right now.

Not bloody likely!

This is The Telegraph. They always do some "administration is divided - Condi fights Cheney fights Gates/Rumsfeld fights Bush fights CIA fights ..." stories to sour "the faithful" on administration. First 20 posts on FR usually jump on headline and take it as done deal and God's truth... Nothing happens but bad feelings stay, especially after 6 or 7 years of such stories and, especially now, when nerves are raw because of suicidal shamnesty.

Gates is possibly suggesting it, as part of "implementing" a Baker's ISG report, or it's simply as a high level pow-wow to have a defense strategy against Congress on why Gitmo isn't going to be closed "as Baker's ISG proposed"...

In other words, not bloody likely!

Hmm. Given the advanced age of Castro and the potential chaos when he dies, there might be some reason to shuffle a few cards.

There is absolutely no reason for a single one of those 400 to be allowed to live one more day, never mind be transferred to a civilian US prison.

And they will be put on trial.

On trial for what? They haven't done anything illegal.

They are enemy soldiers, captured out of uniform carrying out acts contrary to the laws and usages of war.

Kill 'em all.

And now the countdown to the call for REPARATIONS.

From now on lets just shoot them on the battlefield.

From this link...

White House Near Decision to Close Gitmo

.... the White House said the meeting would not take place that day and no decision on Guantanamo Bay's status is imminent.

But hope springs eternal, eh?

I am not confident in the credibility of “unnamed sources.”

On most occasions they turn out to be the reporters pet miniature giant space hamster.

“It was not immediately clear whether the meeting will result in a final recommendation on Guantanamo to President Bush.”

President Bush won’t close Gitmo under his watch since he only has 18 months left. Since everyone wants to rag on him no matter what he does then he should just let someone else deal with it.

From NRO: A newsroom sources tells me:

Senior Advisors to the president are saying there is “no meeting tomorrow” to discuss a closure status on Gitmo. Multiple WH advisors say they were unaware of this news report and are using the term “wave off” on the wire story moving now.

Advisors say there is a National Security Council meeting on the schedule tomorrow mid morning.

Advisors say the president’s position has not changed. he has stated publicly that he wants to see Gitmo closed.

Advisors tell NBC News:

“The administration is not “nearing a decision” on changing our long-held policy to shut down Gitmo in a responsible way. There is no meeting tomorrow.”

Excuse me but we are going to transfer them to US soil so now the American taxpayer gets to fund their lawyers?

What is going on with this Administration. This is not the President I worked to elect — don’t even recognize him.
